3/4 - 16 filter threading

Hello all,

I'm planning on adding a sandwich adapter to my oil filter so I can add oil pressure and temperature gauges to my 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10 with its original 235 engine. Most of these adapters mention a 3/4 unf - 16 threading on the mounting. When I search oil filter manufacturer sites, they list their thread as 3/4-16. The unf is not mentioned. Does this mean that they are not fine threaded? Will the sandwich adapter fit on my mount and then accept the filter? I can't afford to buy this and not have it be compatible. It's confusing because one specifies the unf and the other does not, but this doesn't necessarily mean they are different. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the "UNF" designator just describes how tight the thread demensions are specified to be. It's still a 3/4-16 thread, so 3/4-16 threaded filters will still screw on fine.

I looked up a UNC and UNF chart and have found my answer. 3/4-16 is UNF, so I guess sone manufacturers feel it's redundant. In UNC, a 3/4" is 10 tpi. I'm going to leave this up in case it might help someone else.

3/4-16 has a wide range of filter sizes to choose from.
From PH 8A down to PH3614.

You already have your answer, but to clarify a little further:
UNF - United National Fine
UNC - United National Coarse

For the general populations use, threads come in both coarse and fine.
It relates to how many threads per inch.
In your case, that's 16 (Fine) VS 10 (Coarse)

A late uncle had a 61 Chevy 4 door sedan , got good gas mileage . So , next year , Dad bought a 62 Chevy sedan ( poth were 235 hot water 6's ) . It was a dog & had to have 3 valve jobs by 60,000 something miles . :-(
