A member here alerted me to Pep boys $29.99 for 5 quarts of any Mobil 1 + Mobil 1 filter coupon, so yesterday I printed it up, and today I went in to have a look expecting the Mobil 1 shelves to be depleted.
First surprise was the shelves were stuffed to capacity, except for the 5 quart jugs on the bottom. They had 3 jugs of 5w30, and this is the grade I convinced myself was going into my engine next.
Second surprise, low and behold, right next to the Mobil 1 5w30 is a single 5.1 quart jug of Mobil 1 0w-40 SN with a $40.49 price tag. I did not know they started the 5 quart jugs of 0w-40.
I double check my coupon. 5 individual quarts of ANY Mobil 1 or any single 5.1 quart jug + Mobil 1 filter, 29.99!
I don't need a 0w-40, but I know this is pretty much Mobil 1's flagship oil. 40/30/40/30/40/30 I can't decide.

I sense somebody hovering nearby flummoxed that I am in the oil aisle right where he wants to be, so I grab the last 0w-40 and step aside.
I walk over to the oil filter section. There is a single Mobil 1-301 sparkling in all its glory, the last one, normal price $12.99.
I managed to resist the temptation to blow into the filter to check the ADBV, but do notice a threaded end bypass, and the fact it feels twice as heavy as my standard Purolator classic 30001.
I walk up to the counter hand over the coupon expecting it not to ring up at $29.99, but it does. So 5.1 quarts Mobil 1 0w40 and and Mobil 1-301 filter $32.31 out the door.
I have 13+ months on my current Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40, probably 2500 miles of almost exclusively super short trip driving. I wanted to do a used oil analysis of this oil just to see how it held up to this Severe service, but as many find, it is cheaper just to change it.
I might save a sample to send in when money is not so tight.
