My Daughter just bought a 2020 elantra. My question is from what I find it recommends 5w-20 or 5W-30. What I find strange is most other manufacturers stay in the same weight category. 0w 20 5w-20 example. Any idea why Hyndia is ok with a 20 or 30 Wright oil ?
It is used with 40k and will be driven in FL, I plan on using 5w-30 QSUD in it year round.

5w-30 just seem to 'work' much better in the 2L engine. On my 2021 Tuscon, they have gone specifically to 5w-30 at the dealers, when I asked why, it was given to me that it was a better 'across the board" oil for the whole fleet of engines. Cheaper for them to carry one weight, and less mistakes at the oil change counter. It is also in regards to some engine failures, especially with the 2.4L

Good choice for motor oil. I live in Texas and I use a 5w30 oil. My OM says 5w20, 5w30 or 10w30. I drive a 2018 Kia Sorento and use the Kia oil filter.

Thanks for the chart. What engine? It clearly states 5w-30 for the 1.6 T-GDI and 5w-20 for the 2.0 MPI. Where is the confusion?

I had a similar chart with my 2011Kia Optima. I could basically use any grade of oil. My new 2021 Kia K5 however states to only use 0W20.

2.0
For better fuel economy is states 5w 20. But the chart shows 5w 30 and 10w 30

Now using SHELL R.G.T. 5w-30 synthetic . Was using PENNZOIL Platinum 5w-20 synthetic for the '18 Accent ( 1.6 ltr. , G.D.I. ) and no difference in gas mileage from a year ago . Keep track of gas mileage since new at FUELLY .

5W-20 is fine for this engine. The Nu family of engines suffer from piston slap and a thicker oil viscosity won’t prevent it from happening. Not all of them will develop piston slap, but a large majority will. Hyundai recently issued an extended warranty for piston slap for these engines for cold weather states only. I would use 5W-20 for the quicker oil flow on cold startup.

PP or QS 5w20 in Winter, 5w30 in Summer, and OEM filter every 5k miles for my 19' Sorento. No muss and no fuss

For Hyundai Sonata 2.4L DI , I standardized on 5W30 Synthetic (Valvoline Advanced or QSUD will be my main fills).
