Just ripped out my bathtub and noticed an air duct coming up thru the floor... behind the shower wall. Was just curious as to why it's there?

Not a vent pope out to the roof? If so it is to keep pressure balance so the drains work properly.

Is this an older house that may have had renovations? If so, it's possible the bathroom was totally reconfigured and the duct wasn't disconnected/capped. Are there any other vents in the bathroom?

A little investigation in the basement looking at the ductwork may yield some answers. There's no good reason to be pumping conditioned air into a sealed wall space, that for sure.

One other thing- if this is a 2 story house it may have been a duct to supply the 2nd floor.

Take some pics and post 'em if you can

The house was built in 1960...just a single story w/basement. I dont think it was ever renovated.....I think I'm the only one that has ever did anything to the house LOL. The duct work for that vent just branches off the main. I see no purpose for it ...maybe I'll cap it off? Wish I knew how to post pics.
