What’s the price difference between HPL and Amsoil? Preferred pricing on Amsoil SS is like 10 and some change.
Amsoil and I go back to 1976, when I first used their products, which was very limited at that time. My, how things have changed.I believe with the generous 15% discount, you can get HPL’s entry level or base level PCEO. With PC pricing, Amsoil signature is the better value. I’ve used Amsoil personally for over a decade and have great experience with their products. If they did not exist, I would not hesitate to use HPL. Amsoil Signature Series is my go to for best value among boutiques. Obviously, you can’t really go wrong with either, I just have the preference based on past experience. Both brands have top shelf products.
Typically, I factor in the shipping for the actual cost. Once you hit $100, Amsoil ships free.I just did a quick comparison of Amsoil PC vs HPL Premium Plus 5w30 and regular HPL PCMO (6 qts).

I hope so too. Like an idiot I paid for the prepaid maintenance up to 85K on the Tundra. What I stated doing was change the oil every 5K with Mobil EP and the dealer does the 10K. I’ve thought about having the dealer do the 10K. Use a extractor and suck the oil out and replace it either Amsoil or HPL and possibly do a uoa just to see how it goes. As far as the Pilot I follow the olm with is about 5500. I usually run SS in that. You'd have to run the numbers yourself on whatever HPL blend you'd want to compare the Amsoil SS to. Their website displays pricing, etc and they are generous enough to provide a code as a BITOG sponsor (I could be wrong here), but they're very active on the boards compared to zero corporate involvement from Amsoil last I checked. There are brand ambassadors from Amsoil for sure (see @Pablo ) who know their stuff, but no one with a title comes to mind.
I hope your 3.5 Toyota lasts as long as their older gen trucks have been known to!
Yeah I’ve been a Amsoil guy on and off since 2004 and renewed it in 2008 mostly now. I may just keep using it.I believe with the generous 15% discount, you can get HPL’s entry level or base level PCEO. With PC pricing, Amsoil signature is the better value. IMHO unless they’re using absolute swill (which I doubt), your 5k oci will be fine. I learned the hard way years ago the 10k oci is way too long for my turbo direct injected 3.5 Ford (I know - different engine), but similar idea. Your dedication is admirable, but if you’re that set on getting rid of their oil maybe they’ll refund you a prorated portion of the unused prepaid package?I hope so too. Thanks I’ve thought about that. I don’t know where to begin the process. I’m pretty set on 5K intervals. Edit: others with more experience, please chime in.
I think you've got a good plan. Assuming that this is a dealership/3rd party maintenance package it's more than likely going to be dealer bulk oil - Mobil Super or Castrol are often used - which you'll be fine for every 5K since you're doing your own in between the 10K specs. If you really do care, you can have the dealer use what you buy. The only time they would not likely do that is the Toyota sponsored 2 year free maintenance which they have to use TGMO to be compliant. Thanks I’ve thought about that. Both great companies. Both great oils. Price is irrelevant at this level imo.
