Hello and good day everybody .

Picked up some HPL Engine Cleaner 30 and planning on running it before switching over to their oil .

My Crv takes 4.2 quarts of oil , so I wont be using a full quart of HPL EC in the next oci .

Seems like I should be adding 24 ounces to stay under the 20 percent and have a nice easy number to add ?

Looks like I will have some left and my one ride only has 2,500 miles on it the other one not sure if this year will be its last its gets inspected.

How would you use the remaining portion of that quart of EC30 ?

Thanks as always for your great ideas .

My first time using it I worried and did like 3/4qt but my CRV takes 4.5qts. I did the same in my sons Forte. I cut filters after, pics in the EC30 thread. After that I did a full qt. They each got a couple rounds of EC30. After that I ran 1qt of HPL PCMO 5w-30 with whatever I was running.

They are both on Valvoline Restore and Protect now. I do 5k changes so sticking with less expensive stuff.

I did just recently buy 2 cases of HPL transmission fluid and will probably do one more when sale starts.

It seems as if you aren't planning to change the filter because if you did your engine would take 4.5 quarts of oil. I did a similar change up with a filter change just under a year ago in a Honda K24 engine and just used the entire quart. Since that time the engine hasn't gone BOOM and there are no oil leaks. Might I suggest that you reach out directly to HPL for advice?

BTW - your math is a little off too...

Thanks for the suggestion so far guys .

I listed the 4.2 quart capacity as that is what the specs are , in reality like other have mentioned it turns out to be closer to 4.5 quarts with filter.

Just trying to not create any issues as the car does not leak oil and does not need much topping off , less than 8 oz per 5,000 oci .

Going to take your adive and reach out to HPL with a couple questions I have on their products .

What is the best way to get hold of them email wise ?

1 in 4.5 is about 22.2%. Close enough.
Yep, I think the 20% and change filter is great when you know a motor is dirty or ready for HPL next - but I have used it 3 times in my 2017 5.3L at 25% - and cut allot of filters that were pristine … Motor has run Mobil 1 Annual Protection or Extended Protection … other than two OCI on Valvoline Restore and Protect … Always under OLM % …

I used 1.5qts HPL Engine Cleaner 30 with 5.5qts ESP 0W-30 in our X3. Changed the filter at 2k miles and at 5500 now. It cleaned out the brown crud under the VC made by Castrol A3/B4 over 130k miles.
I waited for my appointment to get a VANOS and PCV recall done before changing it out. It's at the Dealership now and will get a change to 7qts HPL 0W-30 when I get it back.
The leftover 1/2qt went in my SD's Honda Accord 2.4 a few weeks ago. That doesn't burn oil, but it won't hurt to run it one OCI.

Added note: Those using the HPL to clean an engine with phasers, or VANOS as BMW calls them, should check your phaser/VANOS filters and actuator screens for particles after running the cleaner.
