Hate to say it, been there-- big mistake and lesson learned.

My wife has asked for and received some strange Xmas gifts over the years: a Le Creuset dutch oven and a Kitchen Aid counter top mixer as 2 prime examples. She was saying earlier today that those were some of her favourite gifts (those two and pearl earrings).

We don't go in much for Xmas gifts around here. We have absolutely everything we could ever need or want. And if something comes up during the year that we'd like, we just buy it (clothes, books, wine, chocolates, vacations, etc.) How would you buy additional gifts in that situation?

Our gifts are mostly for the kids and grandkids. And charities, we make many year-end gifts to charities.

Though I would meet with months of the cold shoulder treatment when it was an appliance Christmas one year. Kitchen Aid mixer in cobalt blue (matched our dinnerware). Couldn't have been farther from the truth, she loved it. Has used it to do most all mixing/baking tasks for over twenty years now. Backfired a bit though as it helped pack on a few extra pounds. Risked it again last last year with a counter-top nugget ice maker. 2 for 2 so far.

Forget the vacuum,
Look again. It's a rotating brush + floor carpet cleaner! (like the Blue Luster units rented out at grocery stores years ago)

A+ photo

We aren't gift focused either. Mrs. Kira came around real fast. Now that "Summer Sales" are a year 'round thing, it makes less and less sense to buy during any crush.

As mentioned in previous comments, we both typically get what we want-need throughout the year. EVERY year we agree that there will be no gifts for either of us under the tree. EVERY year she breaks that agreement. This year I have a gift card to her favorite landscape nursery with a note stating “includes planting”.
EDIT: One year (35 years ago) I adhered to the no gift agreement. As usual, she wrapped a few gifts for me. After the Christmas morning gift opening it was obvious that she was going to be very quiet. Later that day she finally said, “heck, you could have wrapped a $2 potholder and that would have been fine”. I learned a lot that Christmas.

I guess I’m lucky. My beautiful bride asked for a vacuum a couple years before we got married. She’s always asked for practical gifts and has been very fiscally responsible. It’s part of the reason we’ll celebrate 25 years in June.

I did spoil her for a while when I had my race car spending dollar for dollar on jewelry for her and car parts for it. Those were hard times.

Just my $0.02

At one point my job took up all my time and when it came to Christmas gifts I did not have time to shop. My wife regularly said "you had all year" and "anything would have been fine". But I was working away from home, until 11 at night 7 days per week. Once Christmas passed our flight department would be back in Florida for the winter and I had some free time.

We now don't give gifts. I'm retired now and have time.....

Maybe an opportunity to surprise the Mrs. now you have the time?

A few recommendations and should be easy to find in SE FLA. Coach purse at the Coach outlet, run you about $300 USD. Nice high-end sunglasses.

Dad gave mom a rototiller one year for her birthday. Needless to say she was not amused and never even tried it out.
Is it true you gave Mrs Jeff a bowling ball one year for Christmas? And since Mrs Jeff doesn't bowl, you had the holes drilled to fit your hand so the ball wouldn't go to waste????

Last year I bought a gift certificate at the mani/pedi place my wife likes.

I told them I was her secret lover, and not to let on if her boring nerdy husband showed up. They got a laugh out of it, and my wife enjoyed the present.

I, too, am glad we do not get into the Christmas gift craziness. Even the toilet seat/mailbox combo gift to her one year was appreciated.

Not true. A bowling ball for her was too light for me.

I did get her a band saw for her birthday this year and she uses it more than me. Guess that worked out.

I blush and hesitantly admit that early on in my marriage I got my loved one a Dust Buster for Christmas. Never doing that again........

If you come up missing after giving your Wife a band saw for her birthday- we know the first thing to test for your DNA:
