So I'm finally getting around to looking thru Target's Sunday flier, & when I get to page #9 it has an ad for cheap shelving. And I think to myself, "Hey! They've got two bottles of Mobil 1 15W-50 turned around backwards on those shelves! That's funny! I should show this to to my wife ... "

Then I realize, "Nobody else cares!! Get a life!! Go get some real, live friends!!"

I hate to say it, but the only friends I have who'd understand ... all hang out here ...

People do tend to look at you funny when you compare sub-micron bypass filter elements and wonder out loud if toilet paper really is better.....

Its all a matter of your priorities, I have a cousin that can't tell the difference between engine oil and transmission fluid. His attitude is, "I make enough money to pay someone to handle that for me."

You should have seen the look on my friends face the other day when I wouldn't let him buy a fram at k-mart.

I still have to do a "flyby" of the oil section of any store that my wife and I go to...from Walmart to the plain old supermarket.

This is when you know you found the right woman when she doesn't leave you stranded at the store looking at Pennzoil bottles!

We're all sick. There's no way to rationalize this.

BTW-What bypass filter element is the best for getting out those submicron particles and water/fuel contamination. I've been thinking about a system.

Novadude;

Marry her fast before she has the chance to reconsider!

And whatever you do, make sure not to mention MOTOR oil at all during your wedding reception / honeymoon. Other oils are at your discretion...

It's a good thing we talk about stocks and politics.....otherwise......hmmm...I don't even want to think about it

Hey Bud!

We're alive, though we do very good imitations

I do the flyby at every store. Thought about photographing the oil aisle at the store. Did photograph Texaco and Havoline cans stacked in a 40s era Texaco station in Henry Ford Museum. Photographed my oil stockpile shelf (2 times). Photographed the oil filters on both my truck and wifes van. I have cut pictures of oil bottles out of ads and saved them. I garbage picked various brands of empty oil containers at the local discount auto parts and gave them to my 9-year-old who is collecting them (gonna go back for more). I like to look at the various oil bottle shapes. I am tempted to get a tiny bottle of the 2 stroke oil just to have the bottle in the collection, but don't know what to do with the oil. I like to drive extra miles so I can get to the next oil blotter sample sooner. Last Friday I was approaching the 1000 mile mark on my latest OCI and told a co-worker i was looking forward to going home so I could do the blotter sample. When I have an open can of Rislone Engine Treatment, I can't resist sniffing the stuff. Also, used crankcase oil seems to smell better than new.

hahaha omgz you are like an oil can stalker dude! that is to cool.

anyways, i try to refrain myself from getting as obsessed as some of you are.(no offense) untill i reciently found a smashing deal on a good synthetic oil ($12/gallon for mobil long life!), i had avoided synthetic oils. i had avoided oil analisis, and bypass filters (i almost gave into bypass 3 times though). however my mothers honda CRV overheated one day and i suspected a cracked head gasket, as it seemed like bubbles of air keep comming out of the radiator neck. so i order an oil analisis kit, i am kind of excited about it. my very first consumer oil analisis. (i have done others for commercal but it doesnt compare to workin on family equipment). i fear i am slowly turning into patman. the day i order schafffers grease for my wheel bearings and cv joints instead of getting some local crap is drawing near:\

now with this saab oil, i will probably do an analisis on my car too, for the first time, and see how long i can get a oci to go.

it took me a long time to realise why so many of the people at bitog do analisis, and buy lube control, and buy amsoil and give terry $10. and even give a **** about their engines in general. its a hobby, and i can appreciate that.

How's this for a BITOG nightmare:

You're done shaving. You lean over the sink to wash off the shaving cream and as you stand back up and look in the mirror, you realize you are towling off the face of PATMAN! Then the scene shifts to his cute little son pouring a bottle of Pennzoil onto your wedding album with a hysterical "Dr. Evil" laugh...

I've hit a new low. Last night I woke up at about 3:00 and couldn't go back to sleep. So I went down and checked my dipstick and topped off my oil.

My wife understands and is happy that her car is well-maintained. Besides, I wouldn't have noticed yesterday that the local Wally-World has a $3 price rollback on Mobil 1. Must not have sold much at $22.82. I didn't actually buy any...I don't need any...but...I just had to...look.
