how much oil do you keep on hand?

6qts QSFS 5W-30
10qts Castrol GTX FS 5W-30
9qts Mobil 1 EP 5W-30
8qts Rotella T4 15W-40
1 quart Castrol Edge 0W-40
1/2 quart worth of leftover ounces from multiple jugs of 5W-30 combined over the past 2 years.

It's not as much as I used to have, but I promised myself to get rid of my current stash before buying more.

Something around 250 quarts Mobil 1 5W30 from last years Walmart sale
30 quarts Pennzoil 5W20
20 jugs and boxes of other weights and brands

LOL, I keep saying the same thing, and have actually been doing well.
I made my first oil purchase in over a year recently . I bought 10 qts of Mobil 1 10w-40 HM since I am out of oil for my motorcycle, don't need it quite yet, but figured with the Mobil rebate going on and the oil on rollback (and in stock), why not.

I've a got 5 1/2 qts of supertech 5w30, and a 1/2 quart of two stroke Lucas oil. I've got 3 vehicles and a scooter so I don't believe I have a oil hoarding problem yet.

Oil on-hand? In the past, too much. It's pared down quite a bit, a few 5-qt. containers and a few singles for oils that only come in gallon containers.

The way store stocks are these days, I may have to start buying when ever I'm near the oil aisle.

A very modest amount....a couple generic 10W-30 1-gallon jugs for the lawn mower (which is like a 10-20 yr supply) and maybe 6-8 assorted weight quarts if I ever need to top of one of the family vehicles. I used to maybe store 3X that at my peak way back when I did all our family's vehicle oil/filter changes, but that was a long time ago. Honestly places like Pep Boys, Valvoline Quick Oil Change, NTB tire store, or even the Toyota dealer with coupons can do the whole job (including labor and waste disposal) for less than I'd pay for the oil/filters by themselves and places like Valvoline get me in and out in maybe 20 minutes while I can sit in my vehicle so it just doesn't make sense for me to mess with it anymore.

25L Penrite Racing 10w40
10L Redline 10w30
20L Mobil 0w40
20L Valvoline 5w30
20L Nulon Fast Flow 10w40
4 bottles LM Ceratec...
4 bottles LM Mos2...

In short, too much at the moment. But all (except the redline) were bought on sale.

This is for 5 vehicles (mine plus extended family)

I do a lot of oil changes as vehicles come to the shop for other repairs they usually want the oil done too. I keep my inventory as low as possible and restock oil as needed when I run out or down to 2 jugs. I only stock 5qt jugs wherever possible and the types I need.

Right now I have this on hand:

Supertech Advanced full Syn: 5w/30 - 6 jugs, 0w/20 - 4 jugs
Supertech synthetic 5w/30 12qt box - 1
Mobil 1 Euro 5w/40 - 2 jugs
Mobil 1 5w/30 - 4 jugs
Mobil 1 5/20 - 2 jugs
Mobil 1 HM 5w/30 - 6 jugs
Mobil 1 EP - 5w/30 - 4 jugs, 0w/20 - 6 jugs
Valvoline max life red bottle - 5w/30 - 4 jugs
Valvoline max life full syn 5w/30 - 4 jugs
Valvoline VR1 racing full syn - 20w/50 - 6 qts, 10w/30 - 6 qts
Mobil 1 V twin 20w/50 - 6 qts
Castrol GTX 10w/40 - 6qts

Usually, just one oil change worth for my personal vehicles and my company's fleet. That's about 40qts of 5w-20, 30qts 5w-30, and 4qts of 15w-40.

Recently, I've been seeing prices increase and availability drop, so I've stocked up enough for 3 oil changes on every vehicle (about 1.5-2 years worth).

Current Stock:

11qts Triax Synergy SRT 5w-20
18qts Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20
18qts Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30
80qts Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-20
60qts Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30
30qts Castrol GTX Magnatec High Mileage 5w-30
12qts Amsoil NG/LPG 15w-40

Nearly all of this is stored in my shop. Just the PP 5w-20 & 5w-30 are in my garage for my personal vehicles. I'm also stretching out OCI's by 1-2K miles on most vehicles based on UOAs. I am intending to make these last as long as possible.

40 quarts of HDEO
88 quarts of PCMO
Miscellaneous gear oil, 2 stroke oil, etc.

One to three oil changes. Both cars take ~5 quarts, so usually no more than 15 or so quarts of oil give or take.

Dunno if this has been asked before; please delete thread if so. I did a few quickie searches.
I know we have hoarders, and I know we have the buy as you go.
All 5 qt jugs Synthetic:
  • 2 Valvoline HM 5w30
  • 7 M1 0w20 Advanced Economy (6 from recent low price on Amazon or Wally World)
  • 1 M1 HM 5w30
  • 1 M1 HM 10w30
So 11 total. I usually have some QS or whatever is on sale. I used to use a like of Kirkland, but prices went up.
I regularly service 3 TSXs and a 98 Accord, so I use a lotta 5w30.

I would guess I am about BITOG middle of the pack.
We have 3 cars, but 1 is an "exception" imho as it is a Euro car that I buy Euro oil for. So for the other 2 cars which I use 5W30 synth....normally, I would do the Pennzoil and M1 rebates to the maximum per year, which led to buying around 6-8 5 qt jugs per year, but only consuming about 3-4. this means I was building up about 4 or so per year. I think I had about 12 on hand--but then since the pandemic started, I've only bought 4 this year. net net I probably have about 6 or so 5 qt jugs and < 1 Euro oil. The German car uses 6.8 qts so that means more than a 5 qt jug. There is a jug with about 3 quarts in it, opened. I also have more than a case of Dexron VI I think it is for my wife's SUV.

P.S. isn't DIY a great thing? A synth oil change is < $20 with a WIX XP. Plus you know it was really done, and you get to see what condition your engine is in, if there are any leaks or visible issues.
