How much do people spend to install a tire?

With regard to the tirerack installer list, the one I found in my area will honor the prices listed on tirerack only if they were bought at tirerack. The guy wanted to see the tirerack receipt. It's still a good resource to quickly compare prices.

It is more about quality of work, than price. There are a lot of variables. How much would you expect to pay to get a car up in the air, remove messed up lug nuts, free wheels frozen to the hub, dismount, mount a set of 335/25-20 run-flat tires, deal with tpms, clean corroded bead seats, inflate to the correct pressure, balance with tape weights, hidden behind the wheel spokes, reinstall on the car, torqued to spec by hand, do the paper work, tire disposal, insurance, all the other overhead, and only charge $12 per tire??? It is never a great investment on the installers price sometimes. I charged $25 per tire, for that car, and it wasn't worth the effort, but I still did my best work, without damage, just the same. You can pay more, but you can't buy better.

What about people that switch back and forth between summer and winter tires, with one set of rims?

Another satisfied HF changer customer. I layer cardboard and floor mats on it to keep from scratching mag rims. Not having TPMS, and having random extra rims, means I have time to mess around.

Depends on if they bought them at Ruth's Chris or Safeway

My indie mechanic charged me $10/tire to mount and balance my new winter tires this November. I did supply tireless rims for him to mount the winter tires on. He did a great job, the balancing is spot on. And he supplied all new valve stems. I'm sure if he has to dismount and remount the tire the cost would be higher, but I can't imagine by too much more.

I first check Hunter's website and look for a shop that uses a GSP9700 Road Force Balancer. I've had zero trouble with this balancer and quality of shop. Most automotive dealers use this.

I have found my local Mazda dealer will install and road force balance 4 new tires for me for $80 - which is a good deal. I've had some independent shops charge $15/tire but those days are seemingly over. Labor is getting higher and it's hard to find anything under $100 for quality work. The good news is, once they're balanced properly, you can rotate them 3-4x over their useful life and replace without ever paying again for rebalance.

My walmart is now charging $12 per tire mount & balance. I bring my own TPMS service kits from Rock auto. Use the "ship to store" feature and there are no shipping charges on tire you buy from them.
