Not trying to hijack this thread, but I think this needs addressing. Have you cut one of these open yourself? I assume not because I have. Like its predecessor the -1009, The -B5 has a media that looks like a fiberglass mat embedded in a resin on a plastic cage. I could not tear the media apart with my hands it was so strong. A well made filter. Much better than paper. I have never heard of a story like that, his experience must have been a fluke.
It may have been a fluke, because I never cut one open myself. I did use a couple of the ones I bought over the years though, only to go back underneath the truck and replace it with a PureOne or Wix to get rid of the annoying start-up noises within a few days. My visual inspection of the intact filters did not reveal anything about why they wouldn't work well, so I decided that the nitril (black) ADBV must be leaking the oil out of the can while sitting overnight.
