How many days have you been absent from work?

When I was working, as much as I could get. I was often took days non-paid when I had no hours to pay for it. This was okay as long as the number of people off that particular day was never above 2.
My fun time is important to me, and the only way I stayed sane working 55+ hours a week. Im not a machine, I need a break.

Ahhahah

We get 5 "call in" occurrences per rolling calendar year, each call in can be for up to 3 consecutive days

I haven't taken a sick day in over 7 years

As long as your employer is complaining, and you're in line with the amount of time used by your co-workers, who cares ?

If your job provides you with discretionary paid sick and / or vacation time, and you're not abusing it, use it for it's intended purpose with a clear conscience That's why you have it.

Some of you guys have to work to get paid; I get that. For those of you who have paid sick time or even PTO and still pride yourselves on showing up to work sick as a dog...thanks.

We also have liberal work from home policies.

Basically, ensure the work gets done. People that abuse the system are terminated.

Wow. Care to share the industry/business you're in?

I work in Biotech.

I don't consider medical leave as sick days. Unless you hurt yourself or got sick from stupidity. I got an older guy that works for me that had bad medical conditions but it's under control now and he used up all vaca and sick days from being sick. way different than the couple employees that seem to be sick mondays and fridays if you what I mean.
May I ask what you injured?

My left leg was hit from behind the knee, and went all the way down to the bottom of my foot.

I've got swelling,also many abrasions.I'm taking 875MG Amoxicillin,plus using a ointment called Mupirocin.

Four years ago I was knocked off my Harley on the freeway by a mattress. Shattered my right wrist and had bad road rash. I missed two months of work. I went on state disability during the time I was off. Two years later I slipped and fell off my work truck and broke my leg. two more months off work. Workers comp paid for that one. My Boss is a great guy and hired someone as a temp to try and fill in while I was off. Normally I never miss any days. Been at this job ten years.

Here's how my employer does things:

When the office is closed for any Holiday, we're expected to work outside of our normal schedule to make up any hours missed due to the office being closed. Most (but not all) employees receive 40 hours PTO per year, not enough to cover all holiday downtime if used for that purpose. No one gets "vacation" or sick benefits of any kind. If you're sick enough to be admitted to the hospital, they might send you flowers. And if a family member dies, they will graciously give you one day off without pay to attend the funeral without being penalized.

Attendance at work (including my own) is pretty good. Since we were forced to accept a 25% reduction in hours worked as a result of the ACA, none of us can afford to take any time off.

That's awful!

Geez. You guys are really livin the dream with all that work and no play!

I'm rarely sick, but will occasionally feel sick of working.

We greatly enjoy our time off and our flex schedule with every other Friday off. 5 day work week suck.

I don't feel sick of working, but sometimes I feel sick before starting work. I just want to drive past the place some mornings, and just keep going. Once started it gets better though...

I finally took my vacation days from last year in july, guess I'll take this years in 2017 (minus a week when we're closed between christmas and new years day).

The old "throw up brushing your teeth in the shower" morning ?

It's not that bad, but the stomach does turn sometimes...

Legally we can't take vacation days to the next year, but the administrator at the curent job transfers them to overtime. I've only worked here for 3 years though, anything saved from before is lost per january 1st. I usually take a few hours off if there's no usefull work to be done (customers not showing up, or simply no appointments made). Might aswell cut the grass at home...

That's horrible. Are jobs in your field that hard to come by? I'd be actively looking for something better.

How sad. That's a very terrible employer.

I use every bit of leave (holiday, long-service, sick, carers, bereavement, etc) that I'm entitled to. Wife does the same. If I quit my job, I don't get paid out for accumulated leave, so no point saving it up. And my pet hate is people who come to work sick, keep your germs at home!

Sick days? Never in 50+ years of being part of the workforce.

Vacation? Nothing for the first 10 years or so out of college. Both my wife and I were too busy building a business and careers and were both dedicated to building our futures. Once we were well established and doing well, we took regular vacations and an occasional Friday off.

After we sold the software company my wife continued to work, but had quite a bit of vacation time accrued. We spent a lot of time traveling the world to see all the places we always wanted to see.

Now that the work we do is done on our own time we can travel whenever we want for as long as we want. We only have the occasional commitment to work around.
