I zeroed in on this too. The problem as I see it is with some pleats spread, it leaves others compressed so they don't appear to leave a path for oil to flow thru, thus reducing the media area in play. Cartridge filters don't seem to have this issue, and must have an addition process to re-space pleats. Wire backed media also solve the spacing.

I doubt they are so compressed that oil restriction occurs. Keep in mind that with a positive displacement oil pump, the pump will force the exiting volume through the filter & engine even if there is a hair more restriction in the filter - as long as the pump isn't in pressure relief (at like 70 ~ 80 PSI). A few "tighter looking" pleats really shouldn't make any real impact to flow IMO.

I wasn't implying filter flow restriction, just that oil will take the least restrictive path of single layer media. Thus the bulk of the compressed pleats will not be effective. Stop the video when the end of the media is visible and can see tightly compressed pleats.

I'm just wondering why there's a Tang can with Fram labeling under the filter.

That's the container the filter came in.
I use a Dremel to cut my filters open but this one was too tough. I will use a cutting wheel on my grinder to cut it open.
To be continued............

Maybe they can pack it in Gatorade crystals, too.

Up here, we just get old fashioned boxes for the Frams. Is that a common oil filter container in the States? I've never seen pictures of those before; most American ones I've seen have been in regular boxes, too.

Looking at the X2 yesterday for another thread on this board I found some information linked below about the X2 packaging. Dates back to 2000 apparently when the X2 was being introduced. The X2 appears to Honeywell's earliest Extended Guard that now is the Ultra.

I have to pay $25 year to get into the center, then pay some more depending upon what you are recycling. $10 a pop for appliances, $100 minimum for trash hauls, and $2 bag for curbside trash.

What do they do with all the names and addresses and phone #s for oil disposal? Do all the people on the list get a visit from the FBI if they find something odd in the drum.

yea, your're right. It's great.
