RI_RS4, this current machine only supports 1 GB, so I am already maxed out. However, I did not notice any improvemenet when I went from 640 MB to 1 GB. When I look at the task manager, it still only shows RAM utilization at around 600-650 MB.

Pete,

One trick with Dell is to look in the Small Business offerings. Sometimes you can configure a better system for the same or less cost. You might try the Vostro 200

Good idea.

AFAIK Dell's business computers are also built with higher quality components and qualified for more strenuous usage (e.g. 24/7 instead of 3/5 or something).

Yeah, I'm constatly monitoring both sections (home and SB) for deals. But right now the Vostro 200 is more expensive than Insiprion 530s, and in addition, the Vostro 200 can only be configured with 667MHz RAM, whereas the Inspiron (home section) has 800MHz RAM.

I don't know if the Vostro 200 just doesn't benefit from 800 MHz RAM or if they just don't offer that option but one could install such memory in it later and gain the benefit.
