How good is Quaker State oil?

I have always been under the impression that of the two, Pennzoil was the higher end product.

Quaker State synthetics use Korean made group III base, as does ConocoPhillips.

I'm a big fan of PP, first due to the great prices when on sale and with rebate. Then, the UOA's on my vehicles supported my appreciation. However, when I saw FREE Quaker State synthetic, I didn't hesitate to buy that.

IF your vehicle is in good working order, any of the API SM-rated oils will give great results.

Audi Junkie, pennzoil uses a group "II+" Quaker State uses group "II" and Johnny can confirm this.
Calm down.

Green bottled QS is Group II but it does not come from Korea. Shell makes the Group II in their Port Author refinery. That's also where they make the Group II+ that goes in to the Pennzoil in the yellow bottle.

I know ConocoPhillips gets their Group III from Korea but I'm pretty sure Shell makes all their Group III here.

My bad, thanks for setting it straight.

I'm not the person to ask but the way I understood it is that the base oil in the QS synthetics was imported, the base oil in Platinum was US made, and as for ConocoPhillips the base oil for the Motorcraft products was made at the former Pennzoil-Conoco joint venture site, and the rest was made by S-Oil in Korea.

It refers to the degree of refining imparted to a base crude feed stock in regards to it's final viscosity index. Got that?

Shell makes all of their Group III here for use in all of their North American made synthetics, Platinum, QS, and Formula Shell.

And, unless something has changed, the refinery Pennzoil-Conoco owned together (Excel-Paralubes) just makes Group II and Group II+ base stocks. I believe all Group III used by ConocoPhillips comes from S-Oil in Korea.

It's less expensive, Korea produces 37% of the world's group III output. The more specialized products like some of Chevron and Shell's group IIIs are more expensive but perform to a greater standard. Fully dewaxed, extremely high viscosity indexes, etc.

It's to the point that high quality group II and III production is increasing so much that group II is priced the same as group I oils and group III prices are headed southward as well in the base oils market, and the group III capacity keeps increasing.
