How do I read this dipstick?

Screw it in all the way or rest the threads on the case?
Powermore 140cc.
No owners manual.
Not the best picture.
Edit: I deleted the text I previously posted which referred to the long dipstick models.

Check the MTD website for owners manuals for your particular year/model Powermore. The correct manual will be the one for the engine (separate document from the mower manual).

Edit again: I see that @nomas mentioned the MTD site above.

Bringing up a dead thread but on topic.

I have Kawasaki motors in John Deere mowers that use a dipstick tube. These you seat on the tube but do not thread. I have a Kohler Command Pro CH695, no dipstick tube but threads into the base and it says to thread the dipstick all the way in which is also to the point of overflowing when level. And a Kohler XTX 149cc that has a 1/4 turn dipstick tube and it says to inset all the way but do not tighten.

So it definitely depends on the particular motor.

Old thread for sure, but here's the real answer, from the manufacturer. Took more time to copy, paste and create this post than it took to find it.

Click Manuals, second PDF down. The 3rd down is French.

For those with a 265cc or 302cc Lonchin (chonda type) powered (Toro) 2-stage Snowthrower

the pictogram below shows not to thread in to check level. I think, LOL!

I do not thread the dipstick in to measure oil. That is what we did with Honda dirt bikes etc. and have doing it that way ever since. I am sure there are some brands that require screwing it in but I never had anything like that. I just checked a 22 HP John Deere and it said to check the oil with the dipstick screwed in. I will research this in greater detail on my own. It seems as if there is no general rule of thumb.
