Since I got a case of filters with unsealed bypass valves how do I identify the good premium guard filters?

Do all their filters say " Leak tested" on the top?

Are they all sealed with shrink wrap on the bottom?

Any other identifying marks?

I think the specifically branded PG do have the "Leak Tested" on most if not all of them. The other labeled products like Oreilly's Microgard Select I've not seen that marker so it really depends. Best thing to try for now would be to throw up here what they look like to help out if we can. Also, Made in Vietnam will have a high likelihood of being from those factories while China is no guarantee. Usually holes instead of louvers.

X-ray vision, lol.

Were the ones with "unsealed bypass valves" (what's that actually mean?) the basic bottom tier Premium Guard filters, and not the extended version?

Ch out this thread. I bought them thinking they would be ok but they are not. I have cut open 2. Too bad cause the rest of the filter looks well made.

Yep ... x-ray vision. Base on that, it would be on the "no buy" list for me.

Technically speaking, the filters you bought were "Leak Tested". They just happened to have failed, so sold off to some unsuspecting sole. /sarcasm

At least you paid a discounted price for your poor-quality filters. I paid still-expensive member pricing for mine.

That's a leak test of the can, to check for leaks around the crimp seam. Not a leak test of the internal bypass valve.

BTW it's 2:12 am here and I'm searching oil filters....
You ain’t alone lol I often do the same. I been researching filters for the past two days. I want to step up from the jobbers either back to OE MAHLE Nissan, Hengst or Mann
