How Do I Get Off Of A Really Annoying Phone List?

On my cell phone, I set my standard ring tone to silent.

Every contact on my cell phone has a "personalized" ring tone.

Therefore, if you're number is not in my cell phone contact list, I never hear the call. I just see the missed call or the voice mail later.

Yeah. Sometimes someone I know calls me from a number the phone dosent recognize, or they've got their number blocked and I also don't hear the call. Sucks to be them. I like it quiet.

I have found asking to go on a company's list is effective. It makes no sense to keep calling someone who is annoyed by the calls.
I just got rid of my land line :X Lol....

But no.....if you request to be taken off their call list, they have to do it.....

I've gotten calls on my cell number. A computer can just create sequential numbers to call whether you're land-line or cell.

You did all that without a company name or phone number to give them? What were you expecting them to do about it?

"This company keeps calling me and I want it to stop!"

"OK, what is the company name and phone number of the harassing caller?"

"I wish I knew!"

"Have a nice day, sir." *click*

That is a myth. The DO NOT CALL LIST is permanent unless you request to be taken off of it. However, most telemarketers ignore the list. We get about 5-6 calls per day and are on the DO NOT CALL list.
My mom is on the DO NOT CALL LIST and gets several per day also. She's 84, has bad hearing and I just signed her up with Caller ID. It added $3 per month to her bill. I told her to ignore every call that she doesn't recognize and she's just letting it go to her answering machine.

If your number is already on the DNC list and you are still getting the calls it pretty much means that the calling company ignores it. I have been getting those irritating "robocalls" from "Cardmember Services" for well over a year. They spoof the number appearing in caller ID so adding them to my phone's (cell phone) blacklist only works until I run out of slots. The government shut down several of the companies using the robocalls recently, but the calls continue because these scum are operating from offshore and can make millions of calls with little to no cost.

Just do a web search for "Cardmember" or "Cardholder" services and you'll find out more than you wanted to know.

Been there. Done that. No joy...nor silence.

Google "National Do Not Call Registry" and sign up. If they call you after that notify them of you being on the no call list, and if they call again you will have your lawyer contact them.

I already did that. See my original post. No joy.

I like that. Then I'll have something to give to the AG, the PUC and the FTC.

Ever hear of investigating options? Asking questions? Inquire if they already have similiar complaints? Not a waste of time at all.

Go bottom feed somewhere else!

Thanks. Time to enable caller ID and start adding the number(s) to the blacklist.

^^I have been doing that. My cell phone allows up to twenty numbers and I ran out of slots and had to start at the top. I don't think the spoofed numbers are used very long so I am not sure how many calls this actually blocks. You should see a lower frequency of the card member, holder, whatever "services" robocalls due to FTC actions, but with the very low cost and offshore base it's still going to be an issue. The FTC (I think it was the FTC) has actually offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who can suggest a technological solution to allow these SCUM to be caught or stopped.

^^^That would be a technological feat. Another option would be to turn the tables on the 'sales rep' and get them to divulge all their information ie "How's the weather where you are?" Sweet talk the scammer. Persuation works both directions. Start asking them about their family, their kids, their job. Pour 5 gallons of flatery and interest right into the phone.

In other words: High Touch vs. High Tech.

If you read the various online forum posts about the card services robocalls you will see a recurring theme. The telemarketing people hang up on the call receivers, curse them out, call them names, etc. I don't think $50,000 is enough of a reward. These feminine hygiene products are flagrantly violating the do not call statutes, calling cell phones, and if they actually find a sucker they are committing theft.

You will accomplish nothing by sweet talking these folks.

Depends. The woman who didn't hang up told me their list came from experon? experion? Of course, she could have been lying. So all info was suspect. But it was a start.

Enabling Caller ID and beginning to fill out my block-list is my first step.
