My daughter just bought a new 2011 Accord EX-L V-6 [beautiful car BTW in the new "Orchid Pearl" white]. I will probably end up doing the oil changes. I understand the FF deal--special break-in oil, wait for the MM to hit 15%. The dealer claims the FF is synthetic and that his service dept. uses only synthetic (and charges $52 for an oil change). The owner's manual says you "may" use synthetic which means to me that dino is OK. It recommends 0W-20. I've investigated the Honda branded oil and the 0W-20 is apparently a semi-syn not a full-syn. So....what's the conscientious DIY'er to do? Buy Honda brand oil and filters online? Be a WM troll? Autoparts weekly oil and filter deal? Dino, semi or full syn? FYI, I am 56 yo, have owned numerous cars and motorcycles and like most of us old farts, have been raised on dino every 3,000 miles need it or not. I must report that this technique has been successful as I've never in my life experienced any oil related engine failures. I currently own three V-6s with 161,000, 155,000, 81,000 and a turbo 4 (Speed3) with 18,000 miles and all are doing fine with dino x 3000. I like the idea of getting those combustion contaminates out whether the oil has life left or not. But, who knows, time marches on, things change, maybe the world has passed me by. Educate me on late model Honda V-6s.
