hey there

my dealer tells me to change my timing belt in my 00 civic at 100,000kms for severe service...

but the manual that care with the car say 160,000kms for TB change for severe service..., i know its pre maintence but 60,000kms seems like a lot,

any honda experts out there ??????????

thanx

The 02 Accord manual says 100K MILES. I know for a fact that a lot of my friends have gone well past 90K miles before replacing the timing belt. And this was while living on Guam, you can't get much more severe for a Honda than that.

If it were my vehicle, I'd do it every 60,000 miles just for piece of mind. Timing belts have been known to snap before the recomended change interval, so it's best to be conservative with it, or you will need major engine work if it blows. Plus, you'll be getting a fresh water pump with each belt change as well, another good thing about changing it more frequently.
