Honda S2000 Lubrication?

I'm picking up my first S2000 this weekend (2009 Rio Yellow).
There's probably as many opinions as there are cars on the road, but is there a consensus on the best options for this car? The perfectionist in me wants to put only the best option in it... thanks for your response!
 
If I remember right, the S2000 calls for a 10W-30. I would use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10W-30 or Royal Purple HPS 10W-30 in it. Amsoil Signature Series 10W-30 is also good stuff.

Ahhh... picking it up in a few days... I thought there would be a discussion somewhere regarding synthetic vs others, brand vs brand, etc.

I'll check the manual when I pick it up...
 
Honda 4-cyl engines are easy on oil, including the high rev high power S2000 engine.

You can use any name brand API SM-SN 10W30 and change oil when mileage minder went down to 25-30%. If you use synthetic then change oil at 5-10%.

If you track your S2000 Mobil 1 0W40 is a better choice.

Oil filter is either OEM PCX-004 or Fram Ultra XG3593A

PS Don't redline until the engine warmed up after 10-15 minutes drive.

Congrats on the S2000!

It calls for 10w30, doesn't have to be synthetic, but it can't hurt. S2K's from 06 and later have the maintenance minder which tells you when it's time to change the oil based on various factors like rpm, speed, coolant temp, oil temp, and ambient temp, and oil pressure.

You can also use 0w30 and 5w30 with no issue.

I'd use the cheapest synthetic on sale and use the OCI suggested by the car's MM. If you're lucky enough to find it on sale, I also like Castrol Edge 0w30. You may also like using an HDEO like Rotella T5 10w30

I like M1 0/40 in my '06 S. Go to http://www.s2ki.com/ and read how many have wiped out a main or rod bearing. Most that track or drive hard on the street have moved to a little heavier oil like M1 0/40 or to a 5/40 oil like Rotella T6.

^ i agree, if you plan to beat on it. The manual allows the use of a 5w40.

The S2000 is designed to be driven hard, not to be babied. The engine is loved to rev to 8k RPM, there isn't much torque below 4k. Just take it easy the first few miles then flog it to 7-8k RPM.

Believe me, you will love hearing the engine screaming at 7-8k RPM.

Other than quality oil, you should change MTF and diff fluid regularly at no more than 20-25k miles or 3-4 years.

For tires, you may like to try 225/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rear, instead of OEM 215/45-17 front and 245/45-17 rear.

I have my 2004 for more than 11 years, I think I will keep it forever, there isn't any 2-seat convertible as good as S2000 for less than $20-25k.

It's very nice offer from Pennzoil. I would accept the offer and follow direction to confirm how well Pennzoil synthetic oil perform in a high rev engine.

"For the most part" I would run the oil that protects the engine when your hard on it ALL the time. Because you can't just change the oil every time you want to go out and have some fun, it only takes a second to spin a bearing or scuff up a piston at 8k+ rpm.

I still get 27 to 28 mpg when we are just out for a drive(but we didn't buy this car for the gas mileage). We have 115k miles on our S and almost every mile was a fun mile, top down hot or cold(well the top does go up when the temp gets over around 108F) and we have been all around Lake Tahoe in -7F weather with the top down. This is the funnest car my wife or I have owned in our 45 years of driving.
