I guess that even though I've spoken out against the thin stuff, I just have to see for myself how it will perform before I can really decide if it's good or not. Honestly, it's not that much thinner than Mobil 1 5w30, as M1 5w30 is 9.7cst at 100c, while Pennzoil 5w20 is 8.6cst at 100c. That's less of a viscosity difference than there is between some different versions of 10w30 (for instance M1 is at 9.8 while Amsoil 10w30 is at 11.9)

plus they don't have as high of an HTHS value either,

typical 10W30 HTHS: 3.2
typical 5W30 HTHS: 3.0

OK, some difference there. But several 5W30 HTHS are 3.1, so if you're picky you can get a 5W30 just as good as many 10W30. eg: Pennzoil.
