Honda Filters are all FRAM, Filtech no more!

I went up to the Acura dealer today to pick up a Honda OEM filter for my Acura, made by Filtech.
I have been using the Filtech filter since I purchased the car, along with Mobil 1, 5W30. When
the counter guy handed me the filter, I noticed that it did not say "Filtech" on the filter, it said,
"made in Canada". I knew right away that this was a Fram, and asked if they had any more Filtech filters.
The counter guy looked in the warehouse, and found 7 Filtechs on the shelf, and I bought every
one of them for $4 a piece, he gave me a deal. I gues that after I use these up, I will have to switch to a
different brand. -Joe

I'm surprised it said "Made in Canada". I thought American Honda filters say "Made in America". Either way though, they are made by Fram.

Oz, I know that Filteh used to make the Honda filters in America, which said "Filtech Inc." on them. They are now made by Fram

Joe try your local honda dealer. I can still get filtech at certain dealers. Honda uses the same filter on multiple models. If your Acura filter # ends with P0H-305, it's the same as used on Accords and Civics. If different # for Acura ask parts guy about Honda crossover Number.

Some times all they have is the canadian (Fram) and at these times I substitute after market filter. Anything but F***.

Thanks Mike. Luckily, my friend at the Acura parts counter sold me his last seven Filtechs, and has ordered a case of them from another dealer that he knows. That should last me a while. -Joe

Oz, Here in the states, the company "Filtech" is actually Toyo Roki (sp?). The made in USA filters are NOT Frams. I have cut both open and there's no comparing the quality.

Heck, just holding them the difference is obvious!

They are, however, a dying breed. Most dealerships are switching over to the cheaper Fram-made filters.

Tried to find a Super-Tech for my '85 Civic but they only refer me to Frams at Wal-mart. What is the next couple of good filters to look for?

Chris, find an Advanced Auto, Discount Auto, Pep Boys, or any retailer that sells Puralator. Purolator is currently running a $1 rebate on the Premium Plus(L10291) and $1.50 off of the PureOne(PL10291). I also tried to find the SuperTech for the newer Hondas, and could not find one

My local Honda dealer still has the USA-made Filtechs. I probably wouldn't conclude that since your local dealer stopped carrying them, all Honda filters available here are now by Fram.

It's too bad we can't get the Japanese-made Toyo Roki filters here. Toyota makes their Japanese-made Nippondenso fiters readily available here.

I know that they are Filtechs because of the old blue box that they are in, and the fact that they say both "Filtech" and "Made in the USA" on the filter. The Frams say "Made in Canada". You can also tell a difference by squeezing both filters. The parts guy and I tried it with both the Fram and Filtech. The Filtech does not give at all when you squeeze it and the Fram does. I should cut both apart and post pictures, I just need to find a die grinder. -Joe

I wasn't doubting that you can tell the difference between the two. Just that the inability to obtain more Filtechs at the particular dealer you go to doesn't mean that "Honda Filters are all FRAM, Filtech no more!" (i.e. another dealer might have all Filtechs and no Frams at any given time, which wouldn't mean that all honda filters are now Filtech). I believe they have different part #s: 15400-P0H-305 for the USA Filtech and 15400-PT7-005 for the Canadian Fram. And 15400-PR3-014 for the Japanese Toyo Roki, but AFAIK, they can't be obtained at retail within the US.

Last week I have purchased on line few Honda OEM (Nippon) oil filters part#15400-PLC-004. Paid $34.88 including shipping.

AFAK filter 15400-POH-305 is made by Nippon.

Looks like you ordered from the parts bin. I gave up trying to order some Japanese-made Toyota filters from there, as I wasn't able to ascertain whether they were the exact part # I wanted, and contacting them was no help.
Let us know if the filters you get are actually "Made in Japan".

I have ordered them from all oem auto parts. Filters came with plastic caps on the bottom in "Nippon" paper boxes.
I just checked the box and the filter for "Made in Japan" stamp. Unfortunatelly

, I discovered "Made in Malaysia" on the filter box, nothing on the filter itself.

Thanks for the info. That's the first I've heard of a Honda OEM "Made in Malaysia" filter. Is this a Honda OEM product? That's what I assumed, and I thought "Nippon" just meant they were from Japan, (in Japanese, Nippon = Japan). But now it sounds like there's an aftermarket manufacturer named "Nippon".

One of the Honda forums I frequent had a member who is the internet parts manager for a Honda dealership. FWIW I posted a link and asked for his comments about this thread, they are pasted below:

"Well, the info there is partially accurate. The filter they pictured from "The Parts Bin" is an obvious knockoff as no Honda filter that I can ever recall seeing actually has the part number stamped right on it, and will always be stamped on top with the "H" logo.

The Toyo Roki filters are not blue boxed, they are tan or gray boxed. Toyo Roki and Filtech are not the same company, either.
