So, when I did my first OC on my 2010 Accord last week, I took off a blue Honda filter, and the only number I saw on the side was: A30923

What oil filter is this? Is this the better A01 or the Fram cheapie A02 filter or is it something completely different?

I put a Napa Platinum on it.

No start up noise. Engine is a lot quieter too at warm idle. Sounds smoother at higher RPM's (3-5k rpm range) too.

I re-filled with 2.8 quarts of M1 0w20AFE and 1.4 quarts of M1 0w40.

ARCO....does the A01 and the A02 have this same number on them (A30923)?

How do I know which filter was on my Accord?

The A02 has an 'H' logo on the end/top (depends on which way you look at it) of the filter.

The body of the A02 is a little bit wider than where you would fit an oil filter wrench. The A01's body is the same diameter as the top.

If that was truly the ONLY number on it, then it probably not a genuine Honda OEM filter. And to all of you bashing the Honda A02, it is not junk, its a very well made filter. Im going to post cut open pics of the one I have on the Accord now once the OCI is up.

Here is an A02.

on ebay.

OEM Honda Oil Filter
Brand new!! REAL DEAL
manufactured by Nippon for Honda
15400-PLM-A01 (replaced by 15400-PLM-A02)

So its bascilly a A01 i have been told.

Its not the Ultra Brand - 8 as I thought it was.

Not made in CHINA as you can see.. Not sure if KOREA is better

I'd be leery of buying filters off ebay ... who knows or who can tell if you might be getting counterfeit filters or not.

Might be worth cutting one of those new ones open to see if the guts are what they are supposed to be.

Ill do that when the OCI is done.

but its a NIPPON and NIPPON has a good repuation.

it has a Silcone ADBV, it looks just like the A01s from the TOP....
even by what I can see inside. from the holes.

I've bought A01's off of eBay before. Six pack from a dealer near NYC runs $40 with shipping. They were the real deal.

Just because it says "NIPPON" on the side doesn't necessarily mean it's a NIPPON. That's what counterfeiting is all about ... and it goes on all the time.

Gotta know every little detail about the real McCoy before you can determine if it's real or not.

I may be wrong, but Nippon is not the OES for the Honda A01 filter, is it? I'd be suspect of those eBay filters. If they have a Honda part number on them, they should have the Honda logo as well. Here's a picture of a genuine A01 filter:

I have no opinion WRT to the "Nippon" issue, but that is NOT a "Honda" OEM filter of any kind regardless of what appear on the canister.

Filtech is the manufacturer for the genuine A01 filters. I had an experience where I bought an A01 Filter from eBay and it looked all good except for it was made in China instead of USA where the other Filtechs are made. I'm still debating whether or not to use it.

Why is everyone so hung up on the A01 filter and filters for Hondas in general? What is the big deal?

I just put a Napa Platinum on my 2010 Accord. Be done with it.

You are correct WRT the ONLY manufacturer of Honda A01 oil filters. I would not use what IMHO is a Chinese counterfeit.

Since you asked I'll speculate on why. The first is for whatever reason(s) some Honda owners posting here are hung up on using only Honda oem filters. Then because of the construction some of those folks prefer the A01 to the A02. Also seems lately these same owners post many thread starters regarding Honda filters and their aftermarket equivalents. If a google search of Bitog was to be done, much of the information has been previously posted so it's repititious. At least that's how I see it.

But I agree there's filters like the Napa Platinum and many others with silicone adbv that are more efficient than the Honda oems that work just fine.
