Honda dealer won't do business with Ivan @ PHAD anymore

Not that it's related, but my local Honda dealership held my keys and registration (for a trade in) hostage for a long time while I insisted I changed my mind and didn't want to buy a car from them. I've never been back, not even for parts for other peoples Hondas.

If that ever happens again, pull out your cellphone, threaten to call 911 and report that you are being held against your will.
That strategy is very effective.
Ask me how I know.

It's one thing to just deny warranty, but blacklist after already denying the warranty? I don't really see a reason unless he has done this several times.

There is always more to the story, hard to tell if he used the DYKWIA on the dealer at the time, or just discussed his experience afterward. Either way the dealer is dumb. If they ate the battery he might have discussed how great they were and gained them some positive publicity, or at least more business from him since he clearly buys parts there.

He said in the battery video that he told them he's a big boy Youtuber.

And in the topic video, he said he bought the part from them anyway through a third party.

Thanks I didn't have time to watch the whole thing.

That's pretty arrogant then. I could MAYBE see if he told them "hey I'm a youtuber with some followers, if you sponsor the cost of the battery I can give you a shout out to maybe boost your business", and if they decline then just leave it be and pay up for the battery. Trying to use status to push your way around is never the way to do it.

Yeap, he did. Thing is, he's only got a little over 100k subscribers so I'm sure if should be bragging about his clout.

...he said he bought the part from them anyway through a third party.
Yeap again. I guess he doesn't see the irony in that. He still supported the dealer in a roundabout way. Thing is, I'll bet if he called in and ordered a part as a walk-in/phone customer vs "Pine Hollow", and paid with a credit card, the parts people wouldn't care. He has no choice for Honda parts though as the nearest is almost an hour's drive away, at least if he wants to do quick repairs.

I don't really see a reason
While somewhat petty on behalf of the dealer, it's no big loss to them. He operates a single-bay auto repair shop out of his home's garage so the loss of business isn't going to cause them

Don't even get me start with the Honda dealers and they're batteries.... I've always purchased them and have very good success with them but when the battery went out of my 99 Civic it only lasted maybe 2 yrs, I don't remember the months or the warranty on that specific battery but obviously should've had at least something prorated on it.

I made it a priority to tell the parts guy that they've always lasted me well over 5 yrs but that one did not... he then tells me that they've had a lot of defective batteries from around the same timeframe as mine and he did not offer any kind of help towards the replacement. I know before the other guy told me to write the mileage down and keep it in the glovebox but I bought the battery from that dealership and it should be entered into their system as to when I purchased it, also they mark the date on the battery when they give it to you so even then it's a Honda battery and marked when it was sold.... I did end up getting another battery from them but seriously left a bad taste in my mouth over it.

When the battery went out of my 97 the local garage that I frequent sells Interstate Batteries so when I got my car inspected I had them get me a battery and didn't even charge me to have them install it either, I was going to do it myself but they went ahead and did it for me.

There's definitely another side to the story.

It's rare for us to cut a customer off for anything other than non-payment or returning stuff they tore up. A number of customers are restricted from ordering certain types of parts, or are not allowed to return them if they do. Funny thing is they still come back for everything they can buy. A certain glass company is absolutely banned from buying GM windshields from us, but they blow our phones up all through the day for other stuff. Go figure.

Most parts departments are very busy and short handed these days, so there's little patience for game playing, especially when it comes from customers who don't actually generate much or any profit. When you have 5 calls on hold, you don't want to get tied up with the guy who is just going to create headaches for nothing. We are LKQ busy these days, so game playing isn't a good tactic if you want service.

I know with Motorcraft and Mazda batteries we need the original RO/receipt from when the battery was purchased and it is not transferable except in rare circumstances. They are really strict about the paperwork now. Then there is the whole battery was replaced under the NVLW and the warranty carried is different than one with customer financial participation.

We have a few customers and shops that are black listed. Usually it comes from lack of payment or outright theft/fraud. We had one customer on his cell phone at the counter telling someone how our front counter person was a "low IQ individual" because he dared to ask for the VIN and then asked some more questions to make sure he got the customer the right part the first time.

And yes, at any given time there are either multiple lines on hold or people at both counters being helped. Techs get helped first because we are now $180/hr and that is time and money lost to our largest customer (service department). As soon as a customer regularly buys $150K+ of parts a month then we can have a discussion about who our biggest customer is.
