About 5800 miles on factory oil and ocm is at 40%.

Oil is getting dark brown...manual says to break in cam to end of ocm...

Trying to develop a comfort level running a conventional oil out this far..it's a lease car..but still..

Go by the ocm?

It will be fine, Honda knows their stuff. No worries...

I believe Honda calls for a long break-in on the factory fill which is very stout and loaded with moly for that purpose. Their own testing indicated that engine break-in with a high moly oil was ideal. They do know their stuff...let 'er run until the ocm says time to change.

If it is still the FF, it is not conventional, it is a high moly synthetic. I am getting rid of mine at 4000. Trust me that is hard to do! I would change it, it is a new engine with wear metals in it and a Honda "fram" filter. Insist they dump it, as you/I get a few oil changes under our belt I think can feel comfortable we with the long OCI's. I hate to say I sometimes think manufactures don't always want your car to last 400K, They are in the business of selling cars so the first few changes are really going to dictate the life of that engine. Just my opinion though, do what your heart tells you...you're a BITOGer it's whispering change me.

Of all the new Hondas I have purchased, they have never come from the factory with the Honeywell manufactured oil filter. They have always had the Filtech mfg filter installed. Run the oil until the MM tells you to change it. It's a lease, why would you care???

High moly, yes; stout, you bet; synthetic, no.

5800 miles is pretty long on FF. I know Honda says go 10k; but it's not gonna hurt to change 'er out a bit early!

Says the guy running 20K KM's dino in his engine.

Considering that most people don't even read their owners manuals and just go to Jiffy-Boob and have their oil changed at 3/3000 I think you would be fine to change it out now if you wanted to, however Honda knows their stuff and I'm sure you are safe if you were to run it for the full 10K.

Honda's FF is loaded with moly. Consider it a gift and keep it in.

From Honda's Owner Link FAQs:

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?

Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.

American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

"""It's a lease, why would you care???"""

I had a response drafted, but it would have surely got me banned.
Hint: I strongly disagree, and I'll leave it at that
