There are codes that show how many miles the engine has been run between resets. That's a way they can keep an eye on you if warranty engine issues arise. (...just an fyi of course). They also have the codes for when the OCM has reached it's "0" and how far past into the negatives the engine has gone.

If the manufacturer say not to extend...these are ways they can check and match receipts against the OCM to make sure compliance is being followed if a warranty issue is major...such as a blown engine/piston slapping...etc.

In many cases...the dealer likes the "work" as the "Company" pays. It's the possibility that they send a rep. to the dealership.

Manufacturers that say specifically "not to extend even with synthetic oil" have done their homework and usually the oil is fine...but the filter is plugged.

Variable cams and cylinder management engines are very sensitive to hydraulic pressures...even partial plugging will mean the engine is not going to work well...the way a customer wants it to work.

So as for me....Honda 2010 Accord V-6 i-Vtec/VCM I will go by the OCM and use a reasonably priced synthetic or blend oil and a Honda oil filter.

Can't you just reset the OLM yourself and inform the dealer that you performed your own service (if the occasion arises)?

....if the OCM is reset every 4,000 miles...an owner will be looked at as a good maintainer...every 10,000 miles...hmmmmm

They would still be looked at as a good maintainer because the Honda OLM will go 10,000. My Accord would hit 10,000 miles when it was around 5%.

Why change it at 4,000 miles if the OLM hasn't below 20%? Doesn't make much sense.

Some here are tampering with Honda ZEN. You need to focus on other stuff besides tweaking/playing with your Honda. It's simple perfection is just fine and you can rest assured that it will do its job without complaint.

Honda ZEN. Some people just don't get it.
