Upgraded, or so i thought to a 2012 accord. Well maintenanced and only has 21000 miles. But the noises make me nuts.

On startup there is a whine that's pretty loud and revs up when transmission runs thought different gears.

The other noise is only over 55 mph when I hear this knocking/tapping in the engine.

Is this normal for this car and does anyone have an idea what I should have honda check?

Tell the Honda Dealer exactly what you have stated and put it in writing.

Printout two lists, one for the service writer and place a second list inside the car for the tech who drives your car. Service Writers are generally not very specific when annotating the complaint.

Requesting to take the tech on a test run to demonstrate the problems is likely your best course for making things right.

Seeing what warranty complaints and services were performed via Honda is smart as well; this might give you more ammo when stating that the same problem is persisting .... as previously pointed out by the original owner.

I would take it back to the dealer A.S.A.P and explain the problem, along with a test drive. My friend has had the same problem on his however it has not showed any harmful wear via a UOA.

Power steering. Change the fluid, mine was dark.

Very easy in this car. You can disconnect the hose going to the top of the power steering pump and drain the reservoir. Fill it up, start the car run for a couple minutes turning the steering back-and-forth. Drain again, and fill. Use only Honda PS fluid. You'll need two pints, my dealer charges six bucks a pint.

If you hear knocking from the engine at 55 you've definitely got problems because I can't hear a thing from mine.

A noise, but only with a vehicle speed of greater than 55mph? Not likely an engine noise unless there's something you're not telling us, or didn't check for- like can the noise be repeated by free revving the engine or power braking in gear.

Thanks. I do not hear any whining when I turn the steering wheel though. Still power steering issue possibly?

Also, cars runs smoothly on highway, but when I hit 55+ any slight acceleration and the engine taps.

I want to make sure I dont have issues as my 12000 warranty is up in a few hundred miles. Thanks for the help guys! Any other advice is appreciated!

Have you had a chance to compare these noises with a similar Accord? Just trying to rule out normal noises for this car. I love Hondas, but in my experience, noise, vibration and harshness is not their strong points.

Good advice. Go to the certified used section of your local Honda dealer and ask them to start up a couple. Just find an '11 or '12 to listen to, same powertrain. Be upfront and honest with the salesperson and he'll at least give you 5 minutes on a slow day.

Mine has a whine but I attribute it to accessories.

That leads me to suspect there's something wrong with the cam phasers causing lifter tap.

Dealer says they can hear it and checked exhaust system but it shouldn't hurt the engine.

It makes me nuts and I am at a loss of what it could be. Runs great, then at 65 it diesels.

Changed spark plugs, no difference.
