Honda 9speed issues and CRV Vibration

Just read a Motor Trend Article that with 24,000 miles they are on there third transmission and it still doesn't shift right and is sloppy.

The 2015 CRV with excessive vibration.

Consistently (but not constantly) through our CR-V ownership, we felt too much vibration coming from the driver’s seat. At two service visits, we asked about the service-bulletin fix Honda prepared for the limited number of CR-V owners with this issue, but both times it wasn’t ready. Honda notes the issue does not affect safety or long-term reliability, which is good, as is the fact that I didn’t experience it every day. Even so, as an owner of a 2015 CR-V, I wouldn’t like having to choose between an occasional vibration and optimal fuel economy. CR-Vs from the 2016 model year received Honda’s fix and saw EPA-rated fuel economy drop by 1/2 mpg city/highway with AWD and by 1/1 mpg

I find it funny this seems to find no traction on bitog.. yet bring up any subaru issue that <1% have and subaru is bashed heavily.

They are both on my list although more towards the CRV for buying a pre owned or new, I still haven't decided. So I am researching each vehicle on my list.

So True! and the second you mention VW Bitog explodes with how bad those cars are. Your told go for a Honda or Toyota but neither automaker is what they used to be.

In the US, the fix for the '15 CRVS are out. 3 different fixes depending on the vibration you have.

The 3 fixes
1 - software update
2 - replace dampener in the tailgate and software update
3 - replace headrests and radiator supports and transmission mounts.

Software update drops fuel mileage on the vehicle, so client must be notified before uploading the software.

As for the Pilot, the transmission has been problematic. Strange shifts and noises. Have had several come in with a broken 'bladder' that mixes transmission fluid and coolant. Manufacturer has us replace the trans and flush the cooling system with dawn dish soap.

Dawn dish soap? I guess as long as it works

The 9 speed is not an in house product, which is not typical for Honda. Its too bad they are having such issues, but it appears Honda is taking care of it. Regarding the CRV cvt issue, they have a fix out. Honda cvt are probably the best in the business from a reliability and performance standpoint.

rand -- it's o.k., 'cause it's a Honda.

Ze Germans, zey steeeerike again! That ZF 9HP is a steaming pile of excrement. We drove one in a rental Chrysler 200. The shifts were all over the place in firmness. Give me a CVT any day over that!

Honda is just reluctant of putting a Toyota transmission in their cars. GM and even BMW has no issue of using the Aisin 8speed box which is much more reliable,

That's pretty much how I feel about the 9 speed transmission, no thanks. Only I'd pass on the CVT too. As of now I've driven 2 rentals, and test drove a Jeep with a 9 speed, I wasn't impressed. In fact I didn't like them at all. Too much shifting, searching, a lot of up and downshifting, and skipping gears. Then at times they felt like they were lugging.

My father has a CVT in a Subaru, the car it great the transmission sucks.

My moms honda seems to have had the vibration go away with age. Im not sure why but at 25000 miles its nothing like it was. None of the "remedies" were added on. It [censored] me off that it was supposed to get 33mpg and she gets 27mpg. My VW says it gets 33 and what does it get? 33/34. I cant imagine the mpgs with the software update

I guess people believe the hype,and don't know until they experience it themselves.
Everything is overcomplicated,overpriced garbage these days.Bring on the old cars.....

Except honda extended the warranty on their transmissions and covered engine porosity issues, so yes, people have experienced their trusted buying experience.

I think it is stupid all the problems that Honda has with it's transmissions.

They should just bite the bullet, find the best trans available, and stick to it.

People at this point would be happier with a rock solid 5 speed automatic.

It is always this desperate push for better MPG.

You can buy a lot of gas for the cost of replacing a transmission.

I stayed away from the nine speed when I bought my Pilot mainly because I had read so much negative press on it. No problems with my six speed trans to date, but the car won't be a year old until Dec.
