Hey guys, long time no post. Got a question I'm sure you will be able to help me with, I'm changing the oil in my girlfriends car tomorrow. It is currently running 10w40 blend from the last garage service. I have laying around odd quantities of Valvoline Durablend 10w40, Mobil 1 0w40, and something called Quantum Platinum 5w40 synthetic, which is the oil VAG dealers here use and is made by Castrol for VW. Is there any danger in mixing the three you think? Bearing in mind that one is syn-blend, one is 'synthetic' and one is actual Mobil 1?

Some people say the mixes are counterproductive? However there is generally no harm in mixing grades, brands, types. Question is, is there a benefit?

Example. Theoretically, lets take a mix of GC and VWB.

Discuss.

What kind of Girlfriend? That makes a differance. My current girlfriends 08 GMC Canyons 3.7Liter 5 cylinder currently gets Castrol GTX 5w-30 at 3000 mile OCIs, but in the first year I knew her, I gave her truck one of the best, Castrol Syntec 0w-30 Made In Germany. See now, the relationship has gone down hill, or lower grade. Past relationships have varied from "HomeBrews" to Mobil 1. Oddly enough the Girlfriend I used Mobil 1 in her car was the first car I ever used Mobil 1, she was born in 1974, when Mobil 1 was introduced, and I thought She was the 1. Beware, Oil Karma is present!

She's the kind of girlfriend for who I also washed and waxed the car for and next time will get M1 0w40, now the stash is used up

Incidently, here is a picture of her car, well its not hers exactly but its the same age, colour and model so you get the idea.

Mix away to use up what you've got.

As you mentioned M1 0W-40 would be a good choice for your next OC although most of us on this side of the pond would consider that heavier than necessary unless of course your girlfriend drives on the M 1 with her foot buried most of the time.

Are no 0W-30 or 5W-30 oils recommended by Seat?

Hmmm not quite but you are close, with a VW badge its known as a Lupo, though the Arosa is the original and is based on a cut down Polo chassis.
