If the owner's manual doesn't specify "Synthetic" by name or a Synthetic only viscosity, whether the vehicle is late model or not, there is no "need"...only a "want to use Synthetic". Now, on this site? Synthetic is almost a must, with some browbeating if dino used. I know this is anecdotal but one of my neighbors has used dino in his 2011 KIA Optima 2.4L, wait for it...GDI, for well over 200K miles without fail. He's still in love his car for how reliable it's been. At his 5K mile intervals, It probably has a bit more varnish, that's all.

There is no "why not" from me. Is it forbidden to ask somebody why they use someting?
