High sulfur in Mobil fuels

I've been using Mobil fuel (reg) without exception for the past 3 and a half years ('93 Sentra, 277,000 miles). My fuel gage started to flake out this summer. It would drop down to about half and that's it. I added a bottle of Techron Concentrated which fixed it. The back of the bottle says it "may fix sending units due to high sulfur fuel". Well, ["censorship"], I am disappointed that a top tier fuel like Mobil is not clean enough of sulfur and can cause sending unit issues.

Unless you have analysis of the fuel, that's a pretty steep accusation.

I think the fuel gauge flaking out has more to do with the vehicle being 20 years old and dealing with 20 years of not always being filled completely, getting gas right after the underground tanks are filled, etc.

hey if techron fixes it.. 6.99 at AAP right now stock up, it isnt worth fixing thats for sure.

US govt body (EPA) mandates full low sulphur use starting in 2007...so US has been on low sulphur gasoline diet for almost 7 yrs now...

In other words: it's the law to sell low sulphur gasoline and for that there should never be 1 single retail source on the market allowing high sulphur gasoline, period (otherwise EPA and the likes will go after you).

given the year of your vehicle (a 20 yr old vehicle) I too, would say that your accusation is unfounded. I'd rather blame it on age instead.

I suppose I'll see how long this snake oil / mechanic-in-a-can fix lasts. I just don't want to dip into the gas tank to replace it, though there is an access hole underneath the rear seat. I wish we had Chevron stations here.

Reading something on the back of the bottle doesn't mean that Mobil fuel caused your issue.

There's a government warning on the beer I'm drinking right now that says: "Consumption of alcoholic beverages...may cause health problems." I got the flu pretty badly a few years back, but that didn't lead to tossing the rest of my beer out!

+5, nothing last forever but majority of drivers today think so. Look under the hood, nah, it's all pump and go.

although our fuels have become cleaner by law they are much dirtier than european fuels!! but cheaper. while reading on fuels etc "retired-lots of time, its an ongoing battle between car manufacturers and big oil $$$$ about making our gas cleaner yet!! as compare to more pollution equipment on vehicles $$$$, either way its big $$$ and guessing big oil prolly has more $$$$ to "buy" political people that make laws it will prolly take more technology so fuels can be cleaner without more cost!!! our country runs on $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
