High Performance Lubricants PCMO Series

Don’t know… any idea which machine/test that is? We can always ask…
It’s basically the clutch friendly indicator of a lubricant. For motorcycles with shared sump systems (clutch is bathed in the same oil that lubes the engine), the JASO-MA2 rating more or less is the guarantee that friction modifiers won’t bed into the clutch plates and cause a loss of friction (and therefore a loss of power transfer).

Wondering if HPL does their own in-house friction testing to see if the oil meets the JASO friction test specs?
I would assume they already have something that meets the “clutch friendly” lubricant need, I’m just not sure which one off the top of my head.

Just hit 5090 miles today, I was wondering should I sample the oil as soon as the oil sample kit arrives or wait until 10k and then sample?

Wouldn’t hurt to sample it. At 5k miles the iron levels in my oil analysis on Amsoil 5w-20 was at 26 and got flagged in the analysis. The oil still had life left in it, but had taken a beating towing from the AL/TN border to Tampa and back during the hottest two weeks of the year.

Did lots of spirited driving mostly averaging between 80 to 100 mph on this oil, this car is very rev happy seeing between 3-5 thousand RPM occasionally in the highway but mostly stays slightly at or above 3000 RPM cruising at 80 mph with average daily drive times of 3-6 hours a day. Oil loss has been very minimal around 2-4 ounces. Before there was virtually no visible consumption.

I got an order of the oil sample kit and 6 quarts of HPL EC30 coming in sometime next week. I don't have a pump so I'll just sample it from the filter pull on my next cut open inspection of the filter media.

Summer is fast approaching but the weather here has been pretty mixed lately with some weekend rains and breezy hot weeks.

There's more cleaning power in the oil, than in the HPL EC30.
Are you planning on using both in the same OCI?
Its for the friends KIA, a 2013 Rio and 2016 Soul, and my brothers Subaru 2022 WRX that i will be servicing in the future. But yeah may try it with the HPL PCMO for another 5k run for stronger cleaning if safe on seals and elastomers. We will see when i pull the filter for inspection. There is still some varnish at the fill port area and valve cover oil baffle. Gonna move to HPL premium or HDEO premium when my 12 quart case of the PCMO is consumed.

Probably will hit 5500 miles or less by the time the HPL oil sample kit arrives.

Have you looked into a Stahlbus/Valvomax drain plug? I went with a Stahlbus and am thrilled with it both for ease of drain & in-service samples, but I know @Trav is a Valvomax fan and I can’t knock that if it’s on his short list of good drains. 👍🏻

What’s your vehicle & use case? Sump size has a huge impact on OCIs… how many quarts does yours hold?
Yaris holds 3.9 quarts fill with oem filter. I prefer to use a larger oil filter so the actual capacity is around 4.3 to 4.5 quarts.
the vehicle is my daily driver seeing 100 miles round trips throughout the weekdays and mostly stored in the garage in weekends. 90% highway driving and probably around 10% or less on city.
Im aiming for 10k miles as recommended per HPL on my first extended drain trials on the vehicle.

the woman’s accord is at 4k miles already, i’m planning on 12k miles and i’ll send a sample as i drain it.

I could swear my car seems happier on HPL. Like its just a tad smoother and perkier. I would say its in my head but when driving it this morning I was like why does this feel better then normal, then I realized the only change is HPL.

Am I the only one?

You’re not alone. I feel the same way. And I know I shouldn’t.

For the past 8000 miles I've run the 0w30 Supercar in my B48 2.0 Turbocharged Direct Injection engine putting out over 300 HP with no indication of any LSPI problems.
This time I ran the 0w30 HPL Supercar 10,000 miles. No indications of any LSPI events. Filter was very clean...not quite as dark colored as my first 8000 mile OCI...had three hard black balls (carbon?) about double the size of this period: "." Engine lost 1/2 quart in that OCI...I measured 5 quarts out, after it was initially filled with 5.5 quarts 10,000 miles ago, and I put 5.5 quarts in today to bring it up to "full". Before changing it I drove nearly 500 miles today at 75-80 MPH with a few sections a bit quicker, a couple of WOT for a few seconds (doesn't take long to be going much faster than legal) and with some Stop-and-go. Hand-calculated 33.4 mpg. I usually get in the upper 20's in a mix of suburban with about 20% highway with a mountain bike on top. Don't see a reason to run the 0w20 as spec'd for this engine in the USA. Amazing what can be done with a small turbocharged engine...

I'm about over 6000 miles currently with the first HPL PC5W30 fill and after a while around 3k miles, I noticed the vehicle accelerates better on light press on the gas. You should try giving your Yaris a spirited drive session once you feel passed the break in. I certainly noticed it on my vehicle.

I'll be definitely switching to ATF-Green when my I do a pan drop on the U340E in my next drain at 160K. Toyota charged me 20 dollars per quart for their Toyota-ATF-WS fluid. Mind as well go for better oil for the trans as well while saving a little per quart with HPL.

I run the nuts off of it nearly every time I drive it lol but it was the light throttle stuff where I noticed the difference.
