High Performance Lubricants PCMO Series

It's worth noting though they used a worn out marine engine with thick 5/64" rings that needed the thick oil film due to lack of sufficiently remaining crosshatch to hold the oil film. That was also with GP-1 which is majority group I conventional and thus the more volatile 5W-20 likely wasn't too happy on those 450°F cylinder walls. Like most things on EM, the engine and oil were cherry picked to give a desired controversial result. If they tested GP-1 10W-30, or a stout No VII 20 grade like HPL's Euro 10W-20, it would've been a different result... but that doesn't get as big of ratings. Take what you see on that show with a grain of salt. After all, they're magazine guys well versed in selling narratives. They're also big proponents of Lucas Oil Stabilizer which tells you all you need to know about their oil knowledge.
I agree and in that episode using that particular engine as you mentioned is kind of weird. I would have liked to see a fresh LS or whatever over the worn out marine engine. On the Lucas ... I haven't seen them mention their products but my memory is shot. Advertisers get the preferential treatment as usual.

Amsoil just did a test on a 1,022 HP LS, with drag, DD, and auto cross testing on the Dominator 15w50, with teardown. I’m surprised @Pablo hasn’t started a thread on this. I’ll jump back on EngineLabs.com and see if I can find the link. The article itself is very disappointing, as it gives some detail but not enough, and then is extremely sparse on relevant pics. Greg Acosta really dropped the ball on that article. 😔

I'll look at that one soon. Is that the 24hr dyno? If so I think I watched it.

They haven't used it on EM. They use it a lot on Roadkill and Roadkill Garage.

Because I don't post everything just to be dissected here. I have no control of input to these tests, so I get a bit frustrated. I mean how much does HPL listen to you when they build and test an engine?

I don't even know why this is in an HPL thread.

I suppose it's pretty cool, and nice engine but everyone will just say what they usually say.

It wasn’t a knock by any means Pablo… sorry if it came that way. I know you’re invested in Amsoil and just thought you may have some more to share than the lacking article. Apologies.

Maybe I missed it ... but has anyone posted link(s) to controlled testing that proves that thicker oil, with all other variables constant except the oil viscosity, causes more oil consumption through the ring pack?

Didn't take it as a knock, but man come on.

If you were really curious, you could have easily PM'd me. I mean you called the "article" lacking in an HPL thread. Interesting that.

i must have missed that detail. truck takes 6 quarts so that should be fun. probably just order one of those filling jugs and make sure to clean it religiously with every OCI.
I just ballpark it then fine-tune with dipstick. Just need better bottles, every oil container has them both 1/5 qt.

I stole one of my wife's one quart measuring cups from the kitchen cabinet several years ago. Measuring oil volume is all I use it for and wipe it down after use with a paper towel.

Anytime I grab for an already-opened big jug of oil, I grab the measuring cup with my other hand.

I just save single bottles after a lawnmower change …
Masking tape to write on …

Just wanted to add this little snippet to this HPL thread. Today (Sunday 1/7/24) I was about ready to place another order from HPL's web store when I thought about needing to order more UOA kits. Instead of going back into NAPA, I decided to email HPL to inquire about availability of UOA kits. It's Sunday so I was expecting a response this upcoming workweek. What I got was a reply from David @High Performance Lubricants replying with a link to their UOA kits. Talk about great service!!! I still don't expect HPL to reply to my future inquiries after hours or on weekends & I likely got lucky with David checking into work for other things, but this is EXACTLY why I try to go out of my way to support small businesses. I've had great experiences (and a few bad ones) with small businesses in several industries but so far HPL is definitely on the great service & product spectrum.

I don't know if they ever received an inquiry but I previously recommended HPL to a friend that manages a fleet of GE Frame Series combustion turbines that had a varnish issue. This recommendation went out after my previous experience with HPL. I'll continue to recommend them to friends & especially friends that own/manage fleets of vehicles or equipment.

Thank you again @High Performance Lubricants for the great product & service.

We NEED links to these things so we can get them!

I have 2 of the Amsoil tests left and some Blackstone containers if I want to send. Always up for support for to others.

@SubieRubyRoo has some fuel system cleaner he was able procure. Some UPS/FedEx ground should be able to get that NY.
