High Performance Lubricants No VII series engine oils.

hybrids are just like any other vehicle. The engine makes one cold start. I’d think these oils would be advantageous for repeated warm starts. Additionally, the added protection of a robust oil is a great way to extend engine life. Don’t forget there are plenty of hybrids with oil
consumption problems. Which seems to be the way they fail. Why not protect against what’s likely?

Cold temperature performance matters to some of us who live in areas where a polar vortex can last for weeks and outdoor temps
So, Pour Point of PCMO 5W-20 "No VII" being higher (-38°F) than the 5W-30 (-76°F) is an automatic fail for me. As others have suggested I would have to stick with the [HPL] Premium Plus variety of the 0W-20 PCMO as the regular Premium PCMO also has poor cold temp performance.

GM used to recommend 5W-30 down to -20F and 0W-30 below that.

I think any oil that passes the SAE J300 for 5W-XX should be fine down to -20F?

Pour point isn't exactly a concern.

The 5w20 uses some GrpIII base oil, whereas the 5w30 is PAO. Besides, pour point is not a valid reference, MRV is. Sometimes when making an overall better oil, the numbers may appear to be “worse”, but remember also there’s no PPDs or VIIs which artificially make other GrpIII oils “appear” better to people focused only on a single aspect of the oil.

You’re engine would be starting at a 10F temperature not -30F wind chills do not effect engines.

I know I’m not the only one wondering why you think the wind chill matters to your engine.

If a -10F wind is blowing, your engine will reach equilibrium more rapidly, but it won’t go below -10F.

YOU will feel cold, but your car won’t know the difference.

Wind chill is a measurement of the effect of wind on 98.6F human skin exposed to that wind at a certain temperature.

It has nothing to do with the engine temperature at which you start your car.

This post should be a sticky here and on every single diesel truck page in existence

Shel,

I checked with my plant manager and the Euro will be available right away. I just learned that one of the materials we need for the PCMO that has been on order was delayed and will come in at the end of the month.

David
Thanks. I was just curious as I've plenty on hand from the August meeting.
