High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

Well it’s officially time, finally hit the 5k mile mark on the 5qts of Valvoline PBE 5w40 and 1 qt HPL EC in the Crown Victoria. The oil has become very dark since last update, varnish visible from the fill port has also decreased in redness of color. After draining this week I’ll be filling it with 6qts of HPL 15w40 CK4, which should arrive Monday, and a Fram Ultra, not sure on length of OCI but I suspect it’ll be my last oil change for a very long while depending on UOA results.

Seafoam added to engine oil 100 miles before oil change (1oz. per quart of engine oil ) ?

Seafoam is mostly pale oil with a splash of isopropyl alcohol and naphtha. The isopropyl and naphtha are the cleaning agents but have boiling points of 179°F and 194°F respectively. Therefore, they'll evaporate the first time the engine gets up to temperature. They'll only be relevant
If you want to give Seafoam a go though, just use Marvel Mystery Oil. It's the same thing as Seafoam, with the addition of some (equally useless) TCP EP, for half the price.

Since the topic has come up a few times I am posting the PDS in the PCMO, Diesel, and Euro sections. This is a safe path to clean varnish and or sludge left behind by other oils. There are no solvents in this oil. It has enough ester to clean but still be safe with elastomers. Simply add a quart to the current oil and can be used for 1-2,000 miles preferably but can be run longer if needed. Changing a filter at 2,000 miles is recommended should you wish to clean further.

Okay, I am completely lost. I bought two quarts of EC30 and don't know how to use. I have 50 percentage of MM remaining and don't know what is the best way to apply. It's driven on I-35 from Wichita to Emporia each day so 85+ miles x 2. Should I wait till I'm 1000 miles away and siphon some out and add or use more as a traditional flush. Thanks 👍

Why not just change your oil now. Add the EC with some fresh oil and run it 2K them change again.

I'm definately going to run this in my W8 Passat this year at the next oil change - started thinking about maintenance on it as I got it back from the shop this week for a thermostat repair. With 9L capacity I'll run 2 qts with the usual Liquimoly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W40. I only put a few K a year on it so change will be a 1 year OCI. Really looking to maximize cleaning the cam adjusters as they have already stuck once and running a can of Seafoam sorted it (or it was a coincidence).

I have so much QS Euro clearance oil to go through from last year. Is there a ratio recommended of the HPL 30EC that I can do for an oil like this (A3/B4 + A40) without prematurely dumping it, or is it still 1:5?

Sounds like from a post above that you can just change the filter and keep on truckin'!

Just crossed 2K on one of my HPL experiments on a J35 with mildly varnished front bank , oil is definitely reddish and if I were to estimate it removed 50-60 percent of the original varnish but varnish is very still visible for sure (This is looking down oil fill hole)

I was expecting engine to be 100% varnish free, I am OK with the cleaning that happened, but it begs the question, if it did not clean all the varnish off, will it dissolve the tougher substances like the hard carbon around rings?

Is this product designed more for sludge then it is for varnish and carbon?

I will continue to run longer to see of it will clean it more.

Eleven hundred miles in to the HP EC with the Taurus in signature, oil is really getting brownish and plan to run 2000 miles overall with a new Fram OCOD put on at 1250 miles. Soo far no consumption from the old gal.

I would run it to a full 5k oci, i have 2450 miles on my Element and have seen no visible reduction in any varnish or sludge. Planning on running everything I have the EC in to 5k as no reduction so far.

I am doing the same since, run for full OCI since I am only seeing anywhere from 30% to 60% reduction of varnish in the vehicles they are being run in. Currently running the cleaner in 5 different vehicles for family and friends.

Maybe I set my hopes to high where I was expecting it to look almost like new at 2K miles. These are non sludged engines but have a very visible coat of varnish that I was hoping to clean up.

All running at the 1:5 Ratio

Did you check to confirm you had varnish and/or sludge before you started with the product? Varnish can be difficult to remove.

I did that is why I am taking it out 5k not hateful but areas of sludge and lots of heavy varnish. Don't think previous owner made regular oci's a priority and i know they used cheapest changes at a Midas. We've had for last 2yr and 20k. I have ran, Rislone x's 2 for full oci and Gumout multisystem tune up last 500 miles for several oil changes w little improvements. Why I am trying the EC and may try supplementing a qt of oil for one of HPLs regular oils for a while once the EC is done.
