High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

It’s weird…we haven’t had this level of interest or discussion about an engine cleaner since auto-rx was a favourite here…

800 mile update: So far things seem to be going good wouldn’t say the oil is any darker than 600 miles ago haven’t noticed anything abnormal engine seems to be running just as smooth as it always has, the visible varnish under the oil fill cap doesn’t appear to have changed any, will be changing the filter out at 2k miles and replacing it with another Fram Ultra.

Thanks for the update!

Got 4 bottle yesterday, will be using next week when my son is home. Not pulling a valve cover but will try to snap a pic down the fill hole and see if it makes any difference in a photo before and after.

Six hundred miles in on HPL cleaner in Taurus in signature. Used 3.5 quarts of 5W30 Chevron Supreme Synthetic Blend SP & 1 quart of cleaner. Just changed the oil filter with another Fram OCOD PH3600. They both had the orange/red drain back valves. Picked this car up used last year for a lady friend. There more she drives it and the extensive tune up I have given it -- seems to be running better and better she said. Little things... Will be changing out this oil change at 2500 miles. At that time, have Quaker State Synblend High Mileage SP 5w30 paired with a Fram Tough Guard 3600 to go in.

Just started a second engine on the HPL cleaner today.
New to me 2010 BMW X3, 3.0 with 124999 miles (yes really, just a coincidence) . In: 1qt, 6oz of HPL EC with 5.5qts of Castrol Edge 5W-40 A3/B4. There's a little buildup of black gunk beginning under the oil cap and down around the head, but not bad. Just starting and wipes off with a rag. Cam looks clean. Oil dropped was dark but quite fluid, no glop or grit. Filter didn't have specks in the cracks and the housing/cap were very clean.
Don't want to pull the valve cover off because it's not leaking. I'm more concerned with the passages to the VANOS stuff being clear and clean. Really PM, like the Honda I'm trying it in.

1200 mile update: I was wanting to hold off on this update until the car hit the 1600 mile mark but I have noticed a change that I felt needed to be noted while I’m on this journey. So I have been checking the oil and fill port biweekly and I’m doing close to 400 miles a week and within these last 400 miles the oil has began to develop a deep red color to it, not as dark or as pronounced as an ATF but it has became very noticeable leading me to believe the HPL is beginning to remove varnish from the engine, that said the varnish visible from the fill port doesn’t appear to have changed any if at all but it’s very clear something is beginning to happen. Unless something noteworthy begins to happen the next update will be at the 2000 mile mark when I change the filter.

Waiting on the results of a UOA from my 07 Fit, added 1 Qt of the Engine Cleaner to the last 1,600 miles of the OCI; which totaled 9,000 miles.

I did notice a few more globs of carbon in the drained oil when I went to pour it up to be recycled. Usually the drains have been mostly clean.

So, I believe it did some cleansing though I believe this engine is fairly clean. .02

I also removed the valve cover for a valve adjustment; trying to address a separate issue which turned out to be a loosened spark plug, and the valve train is as clean as it ever was. I can’t recall how clean it looked at the last adjustment roughly 30k miles ago, as I believe it’s a fairly clean engine for the mileage (nearly 300k)…

I also sent the oil filter to @53' Stude so will link the results when it’s posted. Maybe we’ll see what the filter caught? 🤓

I did engine flush on my old bike using diesel fuel, i would say it helped since oil aren`t so contaminated after a short while anymore. Did same thing on Taurus SHO i bought in march. I would say diesel fuel is kinda cost effective if used as engine flush.

Does HPL EC also help clean carbon from rings? I wonder how using this as recommended would compare to Valvoline Premium Blue Restore?

Yes. The high solubility and high temperature stability of the ester allows it to clean well around the rings. I works in a similar way to VPBR.
Ordered a six pack, going to jump into this experiment and see how good this cleans a high mileage engine that had regular OCI with but with bulk oils. Just put Mobil 1 HM (Supposed to clean in one OCI) in it for a 3K to 4K OCI, after about 2000 Miles will change filter just in-case any major stuff was loosened by Mobil 1 HM, and add EC for the remaining 2000 miles.

If it works will going forward will add a few oz, toward the end of every OCI to maintain cleanliness and boost cleaning power of oil.

Since the topic has come up a few times I am posting the PDS in the PCMO, Diesel, and Euro sections. This is a safe path to clean varnish and or sludge left behind by other oils. There are no solvents in this oil. It has enough ester to clean but still be safe with elastomers. Simply add a quart to the current oil and can be used for 1-2,000 miles preferably but can be run longer if needed. Changing a filter at 2,000 miles is recommended should you wish to clean further.

Can I get a contact info so I can purchase a bottle 🍼? Like supporting those that support us just like Veterans! I'm also interested in 0w30 or a 5w30 for a 2017 Honda Accord Sport 2.4L with bolt ONS and spiritual highway 🛣️ driving too please!!

Interesting, does HPL market the product for that kind of use?

Just because they don't market it that way why wouldn't it work? Similar to people adding techron to their gas, when chevron gas already contains techron. According to HPL, EC is mostly esters so how could it hurt? Granted the concentration may may be not in the super cleaning strength it was designed for, worse case it does nothing and I wasted my money, but on the flip side, if it works, then I get a super clean engine.

We won't know until we try.
