Here's what I do to HPL oil

Autocross fun.

Just did one of SCCA's (Sports Car Club of America) "TNiA" - Track Night in America events at Dominion Raceway in Spotsylvania, VA. An inexpensive casual track day/HPDE-style event. Ambients in the low 80s and humid. My PB lap here. Shaved 3 seconds off my last time there in 2023, new tires are to thank:

.

If anyone is interested, here's a datalog from a session:

Lots of heat management issues yesterday - had to run my heat during the sessions to keep coolant below 240 with oil at 280 and DSG at 260 (see log). Short tracks are tough b/c no time to cool down.

HPL Euro 5W40 has ~7K miles so far with 3 track days and 2 autoX. I lose about 1/4 qt per day.

If you want to see my wrap-up/thoughts including my catch can/PCV setup, tires, heat management, etc., check my channel from the link above and find the video I uploaded today, some profanity so can't post the link/BITOG rules.

Vitour Tempesta 200tw P1 tires (245/40/17 on 17x9 et 42 Apex VS-5RS forged wheels (~17 lbs). 2 autocrosses and 1 track day so far (rotate every event fronts to rear and rears to front cross) plus ~-2.7 degrees camber in front. Order is LR/LF/RF/RR:

Update. Just changed the oil. This oil was in for 9,657 miles/changed last Nov. 3x track days, 5x auto cross with 2 of those with my son co-driving so really 7 auto crosses. Most of the non-motorsport use was just mundance around-town driving, commuting, etc. I changed the filter several times during the run, started with a Mann, changed to a Fram Endurance, then back to a Mann. Samples to Blackstone and one to HPL for testing the HTHS/how much it sheared. Excited for the results!

Next UOA is in. HPL continues to deliver.

270F? Are you running an oil cooler?
Ideally sure its clearly the way to go here. Could also look at hood vent to help improve overall efficiency of the cooling system that oil cooling is tied to. It's a street car so all of these create a different set of issues. I do mostly shoulder season events that help and take cool down laps as-needed. The real issue is the coolant temps will creep up over 240 if you hammer it too long...again hood louver would help get more flow...airflow is the root cause here.

Oh wow those are quite high. Im still unsure how high is too high. My car reached 260f max so far without an oil cooler, so I use 2 grade higher than oem, which should give me more than enough viscosity, but i am not sure if it poses any danger to the engine. i remember reading in a corvette manual ( might ls2 or ls2 c6) that up to 300f was acceptable.

Regarding coolant, I am not even sure at what point it boils, which you seem to dance close to

This is the norm for these cars on track. HTHS test at ~300 feg F.

Is that a Golf R? Well before getting my car, each time a Subaru Owner with an NA engine told me that their engine overheats because there was this time it jumped up to 230f I would say that is a monday morning drive for a downsized Euro turbo engine.

What this photo tells me is that you know how to have fun with your car. Kudos to you sir

Nope, VW Atlas 😂

You REALLY know how to have fun. Why do I feel like you have another vehicle for track duty?
My BMW daily is my track car too.
