Great 3 day weekend at VIR! Knocked some time off my PB, finally into the 2:16s and optimal on the Garmin Catalyst shows 2:14. WAY down on power b/c it was hot, Vmax on straights was lower by 5-10mph vs. cooler temps. In terms of the car/oil:
I did have some minor consumption but new "MK8 PCV full-retrofit" worked perfectly with the turbo-driven venturi and I had no smoking.
Oil temps peaked around 282, coolant 240, and DSG/trans 265. I have some logs I'll post links to below. Without a divorced oil cooler system, this is just reality in a car like this. Just had to take some cool down laps/run the heat. Did get the "engine overheating" flash on the dash - also noted that the coolant dummy gauge that sits at 200 won't move north of that until coolant is 235 (I was logging OBDII data/had it up on my phone as a series of gauges) so it moves to 235 then continues to move as you get hotter and at 240 it tells you are overheating.
Had a few codes. A few were normal after it's been beat on/very hot - turbo wastegate and the shifter not thinking its in park. Clear/drive/never see these except for track and it's funny, the turbo one is only after coming in/cooling down. Did have an AC one -clearly from when I was running the defrost...didnt realize it automatically cycles the compressor even with teh AC button off! I have a log showing it..funny...it's a log of intake air temps...they spike when I turned it on/overheated b/c the condesor start pouring hot air through the intercooler reducing it's efficiency. Whoops....should have done regular heat/floor vents. Finally, an oil pressure one. Interesting but these VWs have a variable oil pump so a high and low pressure setting. I *think* what happened was I would come in, oil pump goes to low pressure mode, oil is super thin b/c it was so hot, and it thinks there is a pressure issue. Never seen that one before.
Finally, summer vs. winter blend fuels - the difference is very real. I logged a few of my sessions and vs. logs last Dec, much less knock/timing correction in hotter conditions being driven harder on the same E ~22% blend...I could have probably run straight 93.
