Hey all, I have an '05 Subaru WRX that I've been running Redline 5w30 in-can no longer get that locally (easily, anyway),and since I always change it at less than 3000 miles, I'm wondering if I might same some cash and use Castrol Syntec, or something you guys recommend. Any input would be great. I don't beat the thing, most driving is extended highway stuff, revs below 4500rpm. Definately want to stay with a high quality synth.
Thanks in advance.

try castol syntech or M1 EP. But if you plan on doing 3k intervals, just use a good dino (Havoline) and save some money.

Castrol Syntec 0w30 (a.k.a., "German Castrol" or "GC") would be an excellent oil for your WRX (I run it in my STi), and can be purchased much cheaper than Redline oil.

BTW, why run such an expensive high-quality synthetic for only 3,000 miles? Especially under the easy conditions you're subjecting the oil to. You probably could have easily extended your OCI out to 6,000+ plus with Redline (or GC).

Why not run the Redline 6000 to 1000 miles. It can take it and more. $7 a quart at myoilshop.com. OTOH you could run Maxlife Synthetic for 5000 miles. For a simple 3000 mile OCI, just run regular Maxlife.

Unfortunately, GC seems to be unavailable here, and has been for some time. What is the general opinion of 'regular' (non-GC) Syntec?

A decent Group III synthetic, I'd probably run M1 EP 5w30 instead.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, I might give M1 ep a try. Just want to be sure it can take the heat this little motor puts out, though the car is unmodified.
