I have a Corolla with minor bolt on mods i/h/e if that matters. I used to run Mobil 1 5w30 after break in period and recently just switched over to Royal Purple 5w30. Was it a smart choice or bad choice? I switched over to Royal Purple because all the rave and hype about it. But after getting introduced to this forum Royal Purple doesn't seem to be even all that great. Should I switch back to Mobil 1 or have an UOA on the Royal Purple first?

You will be fine with the Royal Purple 5W30. I would do a UOA on your next change just to get a base line on your engine. But in future oil changes, I personally would use the Mobil I or Royal Purple depending on the price you are getting. Whichever one is the least expensive.

UOA of the same engine UOA on Mobil I and on Royal Purple:

You can always switch to something else after the RP runs out. Lots to try ...ie... Amsoil, Schaefers, German Castrol, Pennzoil Platinum... etc.

Castrol Syntec 0w30 (a.k.a., "German Castrol" or simply "GC") is only found at AutoZone stores in the U.S. (although I believe at least one person spotted it at an O'Reilly's as well). Make sure it says "Made in Germany" on the rear of the bottle as illustrated below:

I just bought an 06 Corolla and would also like to try GC in it.It specs 5W30.

One would think that using 0W30 wouldn't void the warranty but I don't wanna give them any grounds.

Has anyone got a grip on Toyota's stance on the use of 0W30'S in their engines?

same here....i always notice a big difference when running RP vs. just about any other synthetic or dino oil....RP always seems to run the smoothest especially in the upper RPM's.

but any good oil should do you well..
