If you drive hard, then a higher upper W# I.E. 30 or 40. The lower cold start # should almost always be in the 0 to 5 range these days. The syn oils have become very stable in the (0 and 5 # range) last few years, The lower the cold start weight the better, if you get adequate protection. If you are worried about engine wear then just run a sample test at 1000,2000,or 3,000,etc. miles and you will know through OA if all is well.

With dino oil,I would go the 10W30 or 10W40 with a max OCI of 3,000 miles.

I am not a fan of dino oil. There are to many Syn oils with great TBN and Flash point, among other specs, with a good price and just skip the dino risk. OA would show you that in the specs if you wanted the facts.

Wow, the owner's manual really is gung ho: "Mo thickah, mo bettah!"
I wonder if the bearings are loaded a little higher than in most other cars?

IMO, I'd go with a thick xW-30 at the least, something like GC or M1 10w30HM/0W40. Since it's never going to get all that cold, the 'x' is not that crucial; 0, 5, 10, even a syn 15x would all work great. Where's Frank and his M1 15W-50?

Thanks for all the replies!

Nice. Should feel a lil thinner than 15w-40.

40 for summer, maybe 30 for winter. That would help keep the winter mpgs up.
