Since I'm not particularly loyal to any brand and will jump on the oil change specials and rebate deals I have some "remnants" of past oil changes setting on my shelf.

1/2qt QS 5w30
1/2qt G-Oil 5w30
1/2qt Syntec 5w30
1 1/2qts Syntec 5w40
1/2qt Rottella T6 5w40
1/2qt M1 0w40

None of our vehicles require regular topping up between OCIs save for an 1/8 of a qt for the Golf. The Buick never requires a top up, and the Taurus is no longer using oil after switching to Mobil Super HM.

I've used up 1/2 of the previously full qt of Rotella changing out the lawnmower's oil at the beginning of spring.

In the past, I've used the leftovers of the Syntec 5w40 in the snowblower - though it holds less than 1/2qt and I just changed it this spring before I mothballed it till winter, so I won't be using it up anytime soon.

Seriously - dont over-think this!

+1

I agree with Addy, I see 4qts of oil. It's going into Summer. You may have just discovered the most amazing summer blend ever, but You won't know until You dump it all in

Yes make your own personal Mega Mix-

Then sleep soundly knowing that no one else on Earth has come up with such a genius combination of ad packs and base oils-

Agreed...

Maybe it'd be OK but no way I'd use that concoction in any of my vehicles, possibly if I was doing a flush...

One of my best UOAs on my '98 Chev K1500 was on a "witches brew" just like this one. Except the witches brew was made up of garden variety dino oils, not the really good stuff as you are proposing.

I'd put them all together and use them with confidence in a vehicle that won't need documentation of an oil change for warranty purposes.

I'd run it. I normally just mix in my leftovers as I go though. So right now I have some RT0W40 in with the RT 15W40 in my Neon and also some in with the PYB 10W30 in the Tracker to use up the last couple litres of 0W40 I have. In the winter I don't put any 15W40 into anything but for summer its all good to mix and match.

Looks like a good blend to me.....in fact, I'd blend it all together now, if you happen to have a 5 qt container laying around the house.

Just label it "next oil change" or something so it doesn't get dumped.

That oil is definitely good, but you could save some space if you put it all into 1 5 qt container anyways

I'd use it all for 4-5K in something.
It may not be optimal, but it will work just fine for a shortish change.
I'd run it.

Yeah I get the same problem of accumulating half quarts. Eventually I give up and just dump them all in as a witches brew, usually into the oldest car.

I would mix the three 5w30s and use them with the next OC, Mix the 5w40s and use them in something, save the 0w40 to mix for a winter blend or in your snowblower.

Buy a qt of what ever oil you want/need to do another oil change and use up the leftovers. To make it cheap, find a straggler qt of something cheap on any store shelf. I do this all the time.

Thanks for chiming in Jim 5. I thought I had remembered that someone did this and it came out just fine. I guess if you mix several good oils together you get a good oil. I don't think you get some horrible reaction from the mix.

I am doing that now(fingers crossed) in my daily driver, I hope it doesn't cause some rapid wear or shorten engine life.

2 quarts SM Mobil 5w30
2 quarts SL Valvoline 10w-30
1/2 qt 10w-40

I stand to be corrected by those that know better than me, but IIRC, part of the API approval process is that API approved oils of similar grade and API approval have to be readily mixable with other API approved oils with no negative consequences.

I can't find the reference, but this being BITOG, I'm sure someone will chime in and confirm this or clarify my understanding (or perhaps point out my error).
