I bought this in 1981 or so at a gun show. At the time I just thought it was cool to have.
I found it the other day in my closet.

Now I'm wondering what it fits.

I'm hoping someone on Bitog will recognize this.

At first I thought I might be lucky and it's from an arisaka. But those type 30 bayonets seem to have a curve in the handguard.
The blade is 15 3/4 inches, overall length of the bayonet out of the scabbard is 20 1/4 inches.

Thanks.

Japanese . Fits the Type 99 rifle . There were at least two varieties of bayonet that fit this rifle . I had both .

Toyoda made straight guard for the 99

WOW! What are the chances of this? I bought this bayonet when i was 17 in like 1981 just because it looked cool. Through a few moves its been in my closet till today when i ran across it.

In 2015, my father in law gave me an arisaka that he won in a charity event. It was donated to the charity for auction. It is clearly a bring back, likely from a killed soldier. Intact mum, good on one side, rusty on the other , so it sat in wet sand on one side till it was picked up.

What are the odds of buying a bayonet for a gun that i would be gifted 35 years later?

Here is the thread with pics of the rifle.

And just asking this so dont get mad...............

But you have an Arisaka, and this random bayonet, clearly of some vintage.......and you just didnt try to see if they fit together?

It is a cool story, the crossroads of the gun and bayonet, btw

No i didn't . I had no idea it could be a possible be a match. I found it today, had not handled it in 15 years or so, an just posted here to see what it was. I did look online at type 30 bayonets, they all had curved handguards.

Again, nothing meant by the question. Just interesting situation.

You really have something there, the rifle and bayonet, very nice, thanks for sharing.

Are you going to mate the two and show some pics?

From memory, I believe that one of the markings on the bayonet hilt is for the Nagoya arsenal.

Back in the mid 70's I had just purchased my first home. I had an older married couple as my neighbors. Vic was a crusty old fellow and it took a while until he warmed up to me. Once he did he became the best neighbor I've ever had. He past away many years back. Out of all the time I knew him, he had never mentioned he was a WWII vet, fighting in Europe. One day back in the eighties, he called me over to his house and handed me a K98 German infantry rifle bayonet that he had taken off of a dead German soldier. I asked him for the back story but he didn't want to talk about it, said it wasn't important. He told me he wanted me to have it. I asked him why and he told me he had no one else to leave it to. This is a picture of a K98 bayonet. Mine looks identical except the blade has a darker finish on it.
