help diagnose front drive noise on VW

Replaced a seized right front caliper at 91k. Decided to spin the wheel to make sure all the heat didn't cook the caliper. It doesn't have any play at 12 and 6 or 9 and 3. However, it will spin smooth and then hit sudden resistance. Car is in neutral, only one of the tires is in the air.

Is this some kind of internal transmission drag, a bad CV axle, or a cause of the other tire being on the ground?

Sounds like the rotor may be touching the backing plate somewhere. I've had that problem before. Just bent the plate a bit, and the noise was gone. Just my $0.02 cents.
That definitely not it, it spins smooth until it hits clear resistance and kinda growls a bit. I feel like it might be because of the mechanical slack from the other tire being on the ground, but I'm no mechanic. Just waiting for one to confirm.

well lift the vehicle so both tires are off the ground and re-test your theory.

Could also be a bad/warped rotor that came straight out of the box,,, or those stupid pad clips that snap onto the pad ears. Take off the wheel and try to locate it. It is an annoying sound that would drive me nuts. I'm sure others will chime in on this post. That's all I got for you, sorry.

How did you find about that noise?
Do you hear something when the car is in motion or when you push the brakes?

How could it get cooked up if it's new and works properly?
Is the one that you just replaced or the other one?

Car is quiet when driving, just decided to check and make sure the new caliper was moving freely, and the wheel bearing hadn’t become toast from the seized caliper. I replaced everything on that corner, caliper, rotor, pads.

Rotor was warped and car was shaking like hell. The pads were also cooked from the seized caliper.

I think that is normal noise of the pads touching the rotor.
The noise in the end is probably coming from the transmission and if you don't hear anything when the car is in motion - there is nothing to worry about.

Yeah, that initial shhh is the pads touching the rotors. The noise at the end, i was thinking the transmission too seeing how the other side is on the ground. I might try to lift both tires and check again.

Regarding the caliper check that rotor and rim temp. If the rim is not hot and you can touch the rotor for a second or two, and there is not any smell - brakes work fine.

Well i jacked up the other side and it was doing the same thing so that tells me it's transmission related due to one tire being on the ground.

both tires off the ground this round.
VW makes it hard to do this. If you jack up on the pinch welds, there's really no place to put the jack stands. On my 09 accord there was a beefy jack point right at the front midpoint of the car. Regardless, there is really no reason to do it now as it's almost a statistical impossibility something is wrong with the other side as well.
