Heated windshield: A Midwesterner's dream!

I always thought those cars were handsome. The heated windshield setup from the alternator is pretty neat!

We have a heated windshield on our 2013 Buick but never tried it.

We'll try it this week hoping it makes ice scraping easier.

I recall those older instant defrosters for windshields.

The Highlander only has a windshield wiper de-icer. It heats the bottom and pillar areas of the windshield. They caution you not to touch the glass when the de-icer is on. A feature I will probably never have to use.

Rover does it, but with very, very fine wires in the glass. Almost invisible except for on a cold day when you first turn it on you can see a slight distortion for a few seconds. I miss this feature.

Not only Rover, Ford had it and a few others aswell. It always bothered me, I couldn't unsee the wires.

No heated throttle body on mine, so I'm good there! I'll likely be doing a coolant spill-n-fill this spring, but what's in it looks very clean. It also appears to have a new(er) water pump and belt, plus the Carfax shows it had a coolant service not 5k miles ago. Even better, it was the last year GM used green coolant, so no Dex-Cool issues to worry about.

Engine temps have been rock solid: 207-210 cruising which is perfect for a N*.

The line on top of the throttle body isn't for heat. It's for eliminating air from the block so it doesen't accumulate and cause hot spots.
It should flow continuously into the reservoir. If you see it spurting air, you've got a problem. If you don't see it flowing at all, it's plugged with a chunk of rubber hose or something.

Should have never gone to green coolant. The old silicate stuff was never intended for all aluminum blocks.

BTW, mine had the heated windshield washer fluid, which, after a recall, worked VERY well.

Anyone can put a small throw blanket or bath towel on their windshield when they park. If wind is a concern, then weight it down with something. Just before driving, remove the towel and the windshield is instantly clean.

I assume many of the people that bought a 95' Seville new were older folks that parked in a garage and never needed the heated windshield function.

Or they lived in a condo in Florida. Jerry's parents on "Seinfeld", for example.
