Health Problems

Hey guys, good news is I'm still kickin.

I've had a sinus infection to top off all the other nonsense. My wife has been sick for 2 weeks or so as well. It's really going around.

My aortic and IVC ultrasounds came back clear.

The neurologist checked me over and can't find anything neurological related that is wrong, but has referred me to a hematologist to check for blood disorder, clotting, etc.

I see the hematologist this Friday and my GP doctor next Thursday.

Everything takes so long! Everybody I go to, it's at least a week or 2 to get in. And we have ALOT of hospitals and specialists here in town, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I'm going to need to decide on a vascular surgeon. We have 3 vein clinics and all are board certified vascular surgeons. I'm hoping I can find out something through that path.

To make all of this worse, my wife's grandmother passed last weekend and my mother is fighting endometrial cancer. This probably has been one of the toughest years to date for me and family. Even my dog had cancer early this year and went through surgery, but she's doing great.

I have to say all of it really got me down there for a week or so. But, as with everything else, just got to look it in the eye and roll with it.

God bless.

Good to hear you are doing OK

That is certainly a pretty full plate. Although you already have the right attitude for facing it, know that we wish you the best.

Meeting with a vein institute and vascular surgeon tomorrow morning. Also they're doing ultrasounds on both legs.

Hematologist is scheduled for Thursday - they took 15 vials of blood last Friday and results will be this week.

Another with my GP on Thursday as well.

Hopefully, they'll find something! The medical field reminds me of a technical help desk.

Because they dont care for the true mechanisms of why much of what happens, happens. For all we understand of the physical world around us (and know that we don't understand), it seems that the $1000/hr "specialists" care more about their boat payments than the underlying physics and chemistry.

But it is the situation that we have, and treating symptoms has brought many folks to a positive recovery. Im sure it will for you as well.

Sad to hear of the freight train worth of bad stuff. Here's to recovery and good times ahead with all of the bad stuff coming at once and going at once to not be worried about again!

You're very right.

I have to put their kids through college somehow!

As a society in whole, sometimes I think we've all outsmarted ourselves.

I certaintly wish you the best and am interested in the blood test results.

Good news! I'm not going to die from all of this, apparently.

I have some herniated muscles in my right leg which is causing me the pain. Additional to that, I have several varicose veins that have come up for unknown reason(s).

I'm supposed to get an MRI done to verify the herniations and fascial defects. They might send me to an orthopedic afterward.

Blood results came back very good. No blood clots either. My B12 is up around 440, so the supplement is working. HDL is still low and fibrinogen was high (500), but nothing else was noted.

I went to a vein institute that did ultrasounds on both legs. They're supposed to be excellent and my experience was good. They said it is uncommon that several veins would do this at once, but not unheard of. They certainly understood why I was concerned. Surgery might be an option, but I said I'd wait to see how it goes.

Anyone know of any herbal supplements to lower fibrinogen levels?

Regarding the MRI, study up about contrast dyes. My wife has issues using them.

Good luck on your progress.

Well, the herniations probably won't cure. The only options are to try to stitch the membrane (rarely do they do this) or split the membrane from the heel to knee (cut it open and sew you back up).

I'll probably try to avoid that as best I can. Apparently, alot of runners and athletes get these problems. I'm pretty active, but not an athlete, so I'm not sure why they occurred.

As for the veins, only surgery can make them go away. They're going to give it 3 months to determine is support stockings will help. At least it is winter time and not summer because they can get hot! The surgery is outpatient and only local anesthesia is needed. They make a really small incision and hook the vein, then pull it out. They do that for each vein that is problematic. There are some youtube videos of it - it looks really disgusting, but apparently there is little pain afterward.
