Hi,

Curious who here suffers from headaches/migraines. I have a "typical" headache which happens fairly often. It is between behind my left eye and the left neck muscles in the back of my neck at the base of my skull (sub-oxipitals).

I had an eye exam recently and was given a fine bill of health. I had perfect vision with just a slight astigmatysm (sp?) that they could not actually produce a prescription for.

I use my eyes on the computer quite a bit, which I am sure does not help. I do regularly change length scales that i am focusing on, have a big monitor that is bright and has large text, etc.

I seem to have it worse when I wake up, almost as if the musches have gotten sore like the day after a good weight workout.

Anyone else suffer from anything similar? What have you done to help this? I dont take pain medications unless it really turns into a migraine (nausea is the issue to me), and usually stretching helps, FWIW.

Anyone else?

Dehydration? Every time my noggin hurts it seems to be solved by drinking a quart of water, or water mixed half and half with orange juice. Clear pee is the key.

I am blessed, as I can count the number of headaches in my life on one hand!

As for the clear pee comment, I had a very cool old urologist tell me that if you're not peeing every couple of hours or so you're not drinking enough water.

My headaches were in fact related to working with a computer screen for too long. I got glasses that I use when working with a computer now and no more headaches.

How's your seating position at work?

Seating position is OK, though chair isnt most ergonomic to my body. Did you get a prescription specifically for comupter work that is different than what is necessary for normal viewing of anything?

Me too... But I always bring at least 2L of water to work, not to mention additional glasses of water drank at lunch. I generally take at least another 2L at home as well. Dehydration isnt my issue based upon comments from above, though certainly if the conditions are right, I have suffered from such a situation.

....had similar problems. Turned out it was from my neck from sitting in a chair staring at the computer screen too long. Saw a chiropractor a couple of times and headaches went away. One thing he did tell me to do is force yourself to get up every 30 minutes and walk around. Sitting in that prone position for too long is what started the problem in the first place. Took that to heart and have had no problems since.

Yup, this one is specific for the monitor, taking into account that the distance to the monitor is typically different than the distance to a book, for example. So, for book reading I'd need a different prescription. I don't require glasses for anything else further away.

However, in my case, I did not have any aches when I got up. I would only get a headache after several hours of staring at a computer screen. So, if I started in the morning, I'd have a headache by early afternoon if not wearing glasses.

I don't know.
A screen, either CRT or LCD has never caused me any problems, even during prolonged hours of fairly intense (why won't this come out?) work.
Dehydration?
When I have gotten dehydrated, I have not had headaches from it.
I remember having very few headaches in my life, nearly all of which were the result of absurd intakes of wine the previous evening.
Do you suffer allergies, diagnosed or otherwise?
In a bad summer, I do actually get what amounts to an eyeache.
It is uncomfortable enough that I am completely convinced that I must have an embedded object in one or both eyes.
A couple of visits to my opthomologist over the last few summers have convinced me that this really isn't the case, its just an allergic reaction, which has probably grown worse as I have gotten older.
Could you have an allergy problem?

Buddy, I have had migraines, tension headaches, pain in the neck, pain on the sides of the head, behind the eyes, behind the nose part of my face. You name it.

The things I have found that have helped are a diet consisting of no processed foods (where possible), lots of water, walking a couple hours a week, hot showers just before bed and ice a couple times per day on the back of the neck / sides of head or wherever you have the pain for no more than 10 minutes.

Chiropractor adjustments & Registered massage therapy.

I also bounce up/down on a Yoga ball as this allows blood flow and oxygen to enter the discs in your back/neck.

Good luck, I know it's not fun...

I still have migraines and brutal ones that make throw up, loose my vision and sometimes speech and headaches that can last for days on end. I have tried logging daily activities, foods and weather patterns and I can't seem to find a connection so I just put up with having one every couple months while my neurologist tries to find the right medication to keep them away.

I have tried avoiding all caffeine for months and didn't notice a difference in my headache/migraine frequency, duration, or severity so I started drinking coffee again because I like it. I just don't over-do it.

I find that a strong coffee with the special med I take when I have a migraine headache actually helps it along.

If these are true vascular headaches (migraines) ask for Midrin or, if one has hyper tension, a medication that is a vascular dilator. No doctor would NOT give you Midrin. It's harmless ..not a pain killer or anything oddball. I haven't had a true migraine headache (actually defined as "cluster" head aches due to grouping) since (the bp med that I no longer take) .....except if I miss my caffeine. At least the symptoms are very similar. Thickening of mucous ..sinus pressure ..eventually nausea ..pressure behind the eyes (you know the drill). I can't recall if the characteristic sensitivity to light is involved.

Unless I have 6 to 12 cups a coffee before 11am I have really bad headaches...It's been like that forever.

My wife has been getting headaches for close to a year several times a week. She had blood work done which came back fine, tested negative for lime's, eye's are fine. She just went in for an MRI on Friday so we are waiting on results for that as well.

I hope it isn't anything serious, did you get an MRI done or anything of that nature?

I have genetic sinus problems, and also bright light bothers my eyes at times. I am very glad there are cabin air filters now, and my next car I will consider having the windows tinted. we keep a small pill box from drugstore in the glove box with aspirin in it.

I have astigmatism (very light in one and moderate in the other) and I can read and what not in bright light, but after a while it really strains my eyes and eventually get headaches. This is especially bad when I'm really tired. Put on my glasses though and it helps almost immediately.

Same goes for night driving. Can drive without, but eyes get strained and the area between my eyes up to my forehead usually starts getting tense.
