is havoline deposit shield 5W30 the same as chevron supreme? was gonna run this oil in a friends car, a 2008 sentra, she can get the oil at a good price, but i always hear how the havoline and chevron oils are thin and shear to a 20 wt. gonna do 4k ocis on this car ,and it usually takes her 4 to 5 months to put 4k miles on the car, alot of short trips. would this oil be good or should i go to Pennzoil Conventional 5w30?

Havoline is very good. I think the 5W30 is 9.7 cSt @ 100C but it will be fine.

At some point supreme will be phased out and there will just be chevron havoline.
I've never heard that about Havoline. IMO it is a top-notch conventional oil and I'd still be using it if Walmart in this area hadn't stopped carrying it.

It has a good dose of calcium and average zinc & phosphorus, however it did not meet the NOACK volatility of under 15% but it was with the acceptable expanded range. Seems to be a solid performer with UOA that have turned up.

I attended the chevron sales and technical convention a couple years ago and they were going over the changes that would occur with the havoline line and the quick lube places.
The basic overall situation was that ultimately the lower-recognized line would be removed and thye would all become chevron products. For example Ursa would be removed and changed to delo, supreme removed and havoline filled in, etc.
Now given product recognition in various regions, Im sure it is a very slow process, and some names may want to be retained on further analysis because of market share...
10w-40 moves slower than 10w30, but these were next to each other on the shelf:

so what does the NOACK mean? does it mean its a bad oil in that area? im also thinking about running this oil in a 2006 ford freestyle with a 3.0 duratec V6, specd for 5W20 but since its very thin i figured it couldnt hurt it?
