Has this S&W been reblued?

I have a all original S&W in 32/20 that l would guess is older than the 38 your looking at and it has blued hammer and trigger. IMHO the pistol your looking at is an all original well kept S&W. DD

That looks almost identical to my old police revolver. Tapered barrell and all. That looks to be original from the pics.

My friend owns the gun and has it for sale. I've seen it in person.. It is from the 30's and honestly just looks to good. The hammer and trigger shouldn't be blued I'm fairly certain. They should be case hardened. Just am not sure. I'm very knowledgable about smiths from the 60's and up, but this one is a little older than my comfort zone.

My suggestion is to use the "Ask seller a question" link in the ad and find out for sure.

I'd suggest the OP contact someone who buys/sells old guns if there is someone in his area.

Or look through photos like these for a gun around the same model and vintage and compare characteristics.

The gun looks pretty good. I see machining marks which shows no sign of being polished which is typical of a reblue. The color and sheen of the metal looks period correct. None of that deep dark black/blue you see on some refinished guns.

Originality aside, I don't mind a gun that's been re-blued or reworked. Sometimes it's the only to properly preserve a piece of history.

I have a very nice Joslyn Civil War rifle. It's been re-blued and it's well preserved. Looks very much like it did when new. How else can you achieve that?
